Our dachshund was hurting a couple weeks ago and the vet said that it was her discs upsetting her... Sent us home with three weeks of meds and we're going to schedule the laser disc ablation once she finished her meds and the inflammation went down. She has been kinda down in the dumps and not acting like her usual self, but not in excruciating pain... Except for this evening when she started howling out again. We're going to the vet first thing in the morning, but I know she's really hurting. I gave her vetprofen, but she's not due for it again until 6 am. Has anyone dealt with this before? She's our first Dachshund (and have since gotten a second one) and has us wrapped around her paw. Prayers are greatly appreciated!!

Oh Longneck I am sooo sorry to hear the news about your Dachsie baby. I have had weiner dogs all my life and did not deal with back issues until 2006. I got very familiar with a website called Dodgerslist. Find that site and get outstanding info from them. The very first thing that will KILL you is that she will have to be confined to a very small area and I mean very small. You may have a chance to keep her from having surgery, too. I could write a book on the stuff I have been through with these crazy little creatures. Go, go, go to Dodgerslist and best of luck to y'all. BTW, my vets have prescribe Tramadol to my girls and it works great without any tummy upset. Keep us posted.

Thank you all for your prayers! She's still uncomfortable today, but nothing like she was yesterday evening. Changed her meds to straight vetprofen and going to get her to OSU for surgery (if it's needed at the time) and the laser ablation on Monday. I think the confinement is her biggest upset. She even goes to work with me and is not used to being crated!
ETA: thanks for the dogerslist recommendation! I was on there last night from some googling, but I've been on there this afternoon! Lot of good reading!!!
