Get a bottle of tear mender from tractor supply. I don't sew any more. That stuff holds any patch I have ever used it on. Just don't get it on anywhere you don't want glued together. Tough stuff.

Cut one to two inch strips, fold in half lenthwise and braid, hand sewing more strips together as needed. When you have a long braided strip hand sew together in a round or oval shape for a chair pad or small rug. Using a variety of shades of denim looks good!
With very simple sewing you can make a cute picnic quilt by cutting 6 to 8 inch squares. piece together with 1/2 " seams. leaving the raw edge of the seam to the top or right side of the quit.. Stitch around all outside edges of the finished quilt, wash and dry to fluff the seams and you are done! You can back each square with flannel cut the same size (red print looks great) for a thicker and more colorful quilt. You won't be able to make a very large quilt with just 5 pairs of jeans though.
Cut off the leg at about knee length, stitch the bottom edge together, fold over the top for a flap. Use velcro or a large snap for a fastener. This makes a handy pouch for a bottle of vaccine, make it longer for a map or water bottle or whatever.
