For Sale Ads Just irk me Some Times, and then sometimes they are better reading the funny papers!!!
For Instance, you have a 25 yr old horse listed for an outrageous price, and they say DONT LET HIS AGE FOOL YOU!!! ...wellllll he is 25 years old you cant change that...and who wants to give an outrageous price for a horse at that age that prolly should be looking at retirement or at least slowing down...IN his younger days yes he would probably been worth the money asked in the ad.. Then you have then people posting a picture of someone Standing up on a horse!!! Really???? What does that prove??? Then there are the ads, FOR SALE BUT NOT ON SALE!!...Ughhhh i usually keep scrolling!!...Then the Ads that simple say FOR SALE with a picture...no description no nothing!! well in my opinion they dont really want to sell it very bad, or they would at least tell you SOMETHING about it!! OH and the KID horse ads...i think this irritates me the MOST!!! trying to sell 2 and 3 year old horses as kid horses...yes i have seen GENTLE 2 and 3 year old horses but would i sell them to a kid or a beginner...NO!!!!!!!!   i guess i could go on and write a book about this but i guess i have ranted enough!!! But to me if your going to sell somthing, it needs to me an informative ad, HONEST, and tell as much about the horse that you possibly can, habits, vices, ect. thats just my opinion and everyone has one!!! have a nice day!

Why do you make the choice to let this upset you?  When my daughter was running poles in the 8 and under we frequently gave our money to a little bou running a 31 year old horse that loved his job and ran consistent 21's-22's.  I don't buy horses so I don't read ads, but if I did, I would just accept the fact that not all ads would be perfect.

I think it's great that you came on here and voiced your opinion. Now hopefully those people that are posting those ads will maybe take a hint!

Haha I disagree about the "put as much information and be completely honest" I did that and got 1 person to come look at my horse. The mare was priced very fairly and we disclosed she needed yearly injections. Everyone I've talked to is shocked she didn't sell and even suggested we priced her too low indicating a problem. I pulled her ad and will relist her with MINIMAL information

It's true. I put my gelding on with everything about him (3-4 paragraphs) and hardly anyone responded. I shortenend it up, and I have so much response its ridiculous.

I have a 3 y/o for sale with a nice personality, but is still green. I have had more than one person as if he's a good kids horse! I'm like "maybe in a few years!" Really, though, a 3 y/o as a kids horse?! I get your frustration.

It's been incredibly frustrating bc I see people all the time looking for a horse like my mare but only want to pay $1000 or want something with designer bloodlines. She's not "designer" bred but she's PROVEN herself! She is absolutely what she is and she's the kind of horse you could stick a beginner kid on or an adult. She'll gear it up or down whatever the rider asks and she's a solid 2d locally and 3d big and that's in Texas where we get at least 75-100 riders at our locals and nfr qualifiers like McLeod, Fallon Taylor and numerous pro card holders.

Personally, I like to see pictures of people standing on the horse's back. I love to see pictures of stupid people.

i guess i need to clarify that i read a LOT of ads because i am ADMIN over SEVERAL horse for sale sites, and just when i think i have seen them all a new one pops up... as for what i mentioned earlier about the older horses, yes they do seem to love thier job...but would you want to give 8500 to 10000 for a 25 to 30 yr old horse?? and these older horses that love thier job that deserve retirement i personally have seen 2 here locally die from heart attacks at local shows being ran a few years ago..and yes i have seen the 14.5 hand horse, on numerous ads, just never in person..and yes i have even seen ads where the poster will mention that it is green and still bucks or crow hops some...first comment will be be IS IT KID SAFE??  YEP better than the funny papers at times!!

What irritates me is people who respond to the ad and 1. Ask questions that are already addressed in the ad, 2. Try to negotiate price before they even look at the horse, and 3. The most irritating..... Well I don't really want a mare. GAH!!! Then why are you wasting my time?

As for reading ads.... Everything listed above... Also....  Guilding instead of gelding, 15.5 hands, runs consistent 17 seconds outside, 15s inside. Ummm..... What size of pattern and where?  Crazy overpriced horses, most of the time I know the horse. I know a horse is worth what someone will pay, but really?  Usually it's because it has Dash ta fame or Frenchman's guy on it's papers. Means nothing to me.

I've found that being honest will make it harder to get potential buyers, but if you are patient, the right person will come along. How many tire kickers do you want to deal with? One will eventually come along and not care about the certain issues your horse might have that scares others away.

Just make sure you disclose before people come look. I'm looking for a finished horse (still) and regrettably selling my four year old. I think his ad kicks butt btw. Anyhow, I had a girl list her horse as 2/3D. Didn't say it was in youth. And I wouldn't have wasted her time or mine if I knew she was a bleeder and had other issues. Not bad people, it wasn't intentional, it's just a frustrating waste of time.

After dragging a trailer 500 miles to look at a horse, I realized that I should have asked more detail questions and the answers to the questions that I did ask, the seller could have been more forthcoming. Lesson learned. Why is it the horses that I like are so far away?

I can't stand the ones the say "for sale, not on sale"

WTH is that supposed to mean anyway? 'Priced for quick sale', 'firm', 'offers accepted', etc I understand. (I have never offered less than asking myself. If I like the horse I buy it. If I don't I don't.)

My personal fave... I'm saleing my horse. Stop it. No you aren't, you are not talking your horse on a boat. You are selling it.

Also my next favorite is when a buyer asks what the absolute lowest you will go on the darn post itself, come on. I know if you don't ask you won't know, but still. You haven't even moved to a private conversation about this horse yet....

Many pet peeves, but something like this- "Dash Ta Fame" weanling, $2,500. Oops, they forgot to mention it is a great GS. Talk about click-bait. I'm not that naive, but curiosity still got me to click on the ad.

I want to see a video of the finished horse on the pattern, preferably at somewhere besides home BUT not clips of different barrels. What happened to the rest of the pattern? Did you runoff? WTHeck. Don't go to so much trouble to hide the horse

Of course I will disclose to a serious buyer who actually comes to try her before 1) freaking about injecting an 11 yr old horse and 2) who doesn't tell me in the next sentence "she's too old". I want ride. AND HORSE to be cared for

The one I laugh at is.. If he doesn't sell this week the price will go up... really?? I also don't understand why they stand on the horse that's just not the way that I like to ride.

Today I saw someone in search of "solid trail horse" and it "can be green broke". I don't know about you but I've never met a green broke, solid trail horse. I also quit reading when the entire ad is composed of what the offspring of said horses grand sires-second cousins-mothers-sisters have won.

Oh I have. My first horse was 2 when we got her and was just green broke. We didn't know anything about training but I trail rode her for 4 years and when we sold her she was still just green broke. But she was a solid trail horse... She could climb mountains and walk alone, just her and me, through forest all day and never bat an ear. She just loved to see what was around the next turn or over the next hilltop.

Ive always been very curious about this... is 14.5 like 14 and half an inch... so not quite 14.1? or is it like 14 and a half hands... meaning between 14h and 15h so like 14.2?

Someone should ask a person next time they see this.

Also why put up a sale ad if you aren't willing to let the horse go for FOUR months!!!
I am not going to buy a horse and then let you keep running it for 4 months!!
Wait until you are ready to sell and then post the ad! This I find so ridiculous I can't even explain how much it annoys me!!
