I have a 20yr old kids horse that started showing lameness 2-3 months ago.  We thought maybe he pulled something in his shoulder and it would heal in time.  It didn't so we took him to a good vet last Friday.  He did pain blocks working from the foot up and determined what we thought, shoulder.  He took xrays and nothing was broke or fractured so he injected the joint.  We were told stall rest for a week and hand walking/grazing then let him know if he shows improvement or not.  Has anyone been through this?  what were your experience's?  What can I do to help him along?

All I can tell you is that the last two times I have been at the vet, he was injecting horses' shoulders. These horses were not older horses. I recommend that you put the horse on Platinum CJ. It helped my older horse who had kissing spines and chips in his knee.

Both times I suspected shoulder issues but turned out to be foot issues making the shoulder sore.

I agree that it's probably something lower down. I though shoulder because of movement and it was a suspensory.

I had one that I thought was a shoulder issue and it turned out to be an abscess.

We had farrier use testers, nothing showed.  Tried a Chiro.  Then after 3 months took to vet.  He blocked feeling in the foot, horse was still lame.  He blocked higher up, still lame.  thats how he came to shoulder conclusion.  If it was a foot issue wouldn't he have walked fine after the block?  Also the injection doesn't seem to have helped him.    I don't know what to do at this point.
