| Quick little post. Is it acceptable to cheer or give a supportive yell at rodeos kinda like you would at a barrel race? Last night (at a small one at a county fair) a girl's horse broke the pattern a little and was acting very naughty. She was trying to get him together but was havin some problems and finally got him to go towards the second and third and I was standing up and said something along the lines of "you got it girl" or "keep goin, you got it!". Apparently I was getting some mean stares from another barrel racer who was watching her. Is it offensive to say things like that? This is a legit question too by the way, lol. I'm not bein smart or sarcastic. I was really just wondering if it's ok to say things like that? If someone falls and gets up, etc it seems like people cheer so I was thinkin maybe I was alright. Regardless, I cheer and clap for everyone as I think everyone needs support and I don't care what people think BUT I want to to know if this is proper etiquette I guess you could say. Lol |

And, if I caught the "ugly" person out of the corner of my eye, I would have turned and smiled at her. Just to irritate her. Too many mean people in this world today. Kindness goes a long way. |

Me too. And if the stare was ugly enough I might even say, "Hi, how are you today?" All with a big smile.
Someone actually told my friend at a gymkhana that he was being too loud and to be quiet. His response was that he was cheering and encouraging his friends, and that this person must have never been to an actual barrel race before. Since I came from hunter/jumpers, it was a big change since barrel racers are MUCH louder...but I am the one that changed disciplines...so when in Rome, do as the Romans do. It is a free country, and sometimes those outside words of assistance do actually help. Yell away! |

| Thanks for all of the replies! I was just makin sure that my "rodeo etiquette" wasn't bad. Lol. I also learned that the girl who did so was actually video taping that girl so maybe she thought I'd disturb the video or maybe she wasn't used to that. Oh well!! I really try to encourage others and will continue to do so |

What you did sounds perfectly acceptable. I was at a barrel race a couple of weeks ago and a girl was really down about a problem she had on the pattern with her horse....I looked at her and said, "You know what I thought when I saw your run?....****, that sucks...been there!" It happens to everyone that goes out there and tries... |
