| In regards to videos, I haven't ran across one. However, I attended a Charmayne James clinic this year and I asked her the same question because I was having trouble; When do I sit for the turn? And her answer was, I can't answer that for you. LOL. I know, not helpful. Her explanation was it's ALL ABOUT TIMING. Learning the rhythm of YOUR horse because everyone is different. I found with my mare, who is more rollback style, that I had to ride her completely past a barrel (up in my seat), then sit and come on around. Otherwise, if I sat too soon, her signal to come around, we'd come over the top of the barrel. One good way to gauge timing, at a walk, trot or canter, is when you feel your horses hind end engaging, sit down. You can do this on the pattern, during drills or just do rollbacks on the fence. Doing it slow will help you do it better once you add speed. Hope this helped! Good luck! | |

Location: Texas | Thanks. I am trying to help my granddaughter who is having a tough time getting her timing on the first barrel. The two left turns are great but that first turn cost them so much time. | |
