What in your opinion is the best (safest, most stylish) riding helmet out there?

I just recently got the low profile one from Ovation to ride my colt. I love it except that all helmets seemed to have gone from actual sizing to "adjustable sizing." Great except if you wear a ponytail the knob thingy for adjustment is right where your ponytail would be unless you wear it reaaaaally low.

I think the low profile english/eventing ones are the most comfortable and breathable. I just ride my youngsters in one, but have been kicking around the idea of always wearning one and having my 2 young kids do the same. I hate lugging mine out of the house, but once it is on, I don't notice it at all. I think mine is an International something or other brand. Meets all the ASTM and SEI certified. Mine is something like this one or very similar. http://www.doversaddlery.com/irh%C2%AE-ath%3f-ssv-riding-helmet/p/X1-3663/

Depends on the shape of your head. I have a very round mellon and can only wear a Troxel. I do love it though - very comfortable

I had a Tipperary Sportage save my life two weeks ago. I would put that little $70 helmet up to compete against my old galloping helmet-NTO.
I didn't ride till I had my helmet replaced 6 days after crushing the inside foam and cracking the exterior up in three places. Thanks Be To God it did it's job!

The skull caps offer the greatest protection - that's what you see Jockeys and Eventers wearing, but they are hot and heavier than something like the tipperary sportage.  Get something that fits well and is comfortable enough that it will be worn.  My daughter and I HATE the Troxels.  Daughter only rides in Charles Owen helmets (IMO they are the best) and I use a tipperary for flat work but a Charles Owen skull cap for jumping or anything "dangerous!"

I have an oval head and I love my Tippery Sportage. Very lightweight and low-profile.

For myself personally, Troxel hurts my head so I can't wear theirs.

I have a Charles Owen skull cap and just ordered an Ovation schooler as well.  I love the fit of my Charles Owen, but it is definitely hot and a little bit heavy, so I find myself making excuses not to wear it.  :(  Hoping the Ovation is a  bit cooler at the very least.

I just bought myself and granddaughter (she is 4) helmets, Troxel with the front vents.  I figured if I was going to make her wear a helmet, I needed to set an example.  They seem to fight good and she thought it 'fun' that grandma had a helmet too!!  I really don't have an opinion on the best helmet brand, just figured I needed to safety up a bit...

I started wearing a helmet years ago because I felt like a hypocrite making my daughter wear one and I wasn't. Not that she complained. She grew up with helmets. But I didn't like feeling like a hypocrite. The Tipperary Sportage. I dismount and forget I have it on. I go across the street to get the mail and my daughter is like, "Mom, you still have your helmet on," lol. It's comfy and light. It also saved my life. Two years ago I had a bad fall, broke my back in two places and my head bounced twice but I didn't even have a headache. I'm sure I'd be dead if I didn't have that helmet on.
