I was asked by some new horse owners to give their daughter riding lessons. They are NEW to horses, so the littlest thing is eye-opening for them. I'm trying to put a study guide together for them (can you tell that I'm a teacher? lol) which right now has parts of a horse, parts of a saddle, worming/trimming/vet schedule in it. Could y'all help me with some more ideas on what I should put in there? Some things seems so common knowledge to me since I've been around horses my whole life so it's hard trying to think of things they might not be aware of.

I would be sure to add proper safety on the ground around the horse. When I am working with kids that have never been around horses safety on the ground is one of my first topics. It is amazing what kids or their parents will do around horses just because they have no idea they are probably in a dangerous spot. They think that because he is standing there calmly that he couldn't or wouldn't ever have a freak out moment.
I would add common signs to look for, for sickness. Granted I would put my disclaimer of if you ever think something is wrong contact your vet. Just a basic "this is not normal" list.

It's not really a study guide pount, but when I used to give lessons, the parents & kids loved that I started with what to do on the ground. I would let them help me catch the horse, brush, pick out feet, saddle.
Most of the riding schools around here have the horse saddled & the kids just climb on the mounting block & get on.
