We put radio-telemetry on Arkansas' first crested caracara - a kind of hawk - in NE AR in July . It was the first caracara documented in AR. It had an infection and it was rehabbed and released with a leg band and tranmistter. It left AR after a month and settled in south of Paris and west of Deport. We got 5 gps locatioins daily until 7 am on August 29. Either the cell signal which transmits the locations has died, or the bird is sick or dead.
I know this is a shot in the dark but: Is there anyone in that area that might be able to get permisssion from the landowner to go look at the last several locations which are in about a 60 acre area? This bird would be very conspicuous if its alive. Feel free to message me or email me at Karen.Rowe at agfc.ar.gov
Thanks in advance. And no its does not taste like chicken, and no it does not eat your chickens. This member of the falcon family feeds on insects, snakes and frogs and mostly carrion (dead stuff). Pretty cool as far as birds go.

I can't help you as far as talking to anyone in that area but we are about a 100 miles southwest of there and we see Caracara every so often in our pastures in late spring when they are freshly cut. They are awesome looking creatures! They look like parrots with stilt legs!
