Heavy weight lifting 5 times a wk. I count my riding as cardio... I think it has made me a stronger and better rider.

I started an ab/yoga/stretch routine in May after realizing I wasn't riding balanced or well.  I do at least a short set every morning now.  I do double or triple sets most days.  I've lost at least one jean size and I am so much more comfy riding already.  When the time and weather change this fall I will go back to the torture chamber and do my cardio/weight training before ending with my new routine.

6x a week for 30-45 minutes including speed/agility, yoga, weight training and kick boxing plus instead of using tractor or atv I walk when doing barn chores. I ride 3-5 horses a day.

I love doing pull ups and chins up, both free and assisted, to help with core strength, and planking acutally does work as well.

It's just some stuff I found and put together.  I start with a little stretching, then do 6 different ab moved (20 of each on short days, sets of 10 and 15 on longer days), followed by planks, and another yoga move where you're on your tummy but pull your arms and legs up.  5 different stretchs, then up for one leg balance moves.  That balance thing on one leg is much harder than it should be at 50+ !!!  LOL!

I work out 4-5 times a week, 30 mins-1hr worth of cardio and 30-1hr worth of lifting heavy(ish) weights. Amount of time depends on what else I have going on that day.... And how much I hate cardio??. I figure at least I'm getting off my arse and doing something active!

My core is much stronger.... but can someone please explain why my jeans are fitting worse than they did before? Because my yoga pants are looser but my jeans are tighter!!!! lol

I work out 3-4x per week resistance training + (x2) LISS & (x3) HIIT per week. I used to run aaaallll the time, like 5 or 6 miles a night, but realized that wasn't getting me anywhere.
I gained LOTS of balance & core stability after adding the resistance and cutting down on the cardio.

Weight lifting 4 times a week, cardio maybe once a week before or after my workout. Abs once or twice a week.

Healthier diet with the good stuff on the weekend. I'm naturally very slim, so I'm trying add some mass before cutting down! That is when the cardio will be more frequent

Well aside from barn chores and walking my dogs, I HAVE to do yoga at least a few times a week to help manage my back pain and it has the added benefit of helping to strengthen me overall. I'm really lazy and hate working out but I do enjoy the yoga because it feels soooo gooood. And if I don't do it my bad but sorta manageable pain becomes horrible, life ruining torture. I want to try pilates as well.
I also eat extremely well and am down almost 30lbs since the beginning of summer and am working on getting down to the 170-180lb range (which for my height, bone structure, and desired muscle, is pretty thin).

I used to run, drive to the gym and workout, lift weights, and do all sorts of great stuff. After I had my daughter, I quickly realized that I didn't have as much time to workout and needed something that was quick and effective. I tried the Jillian Michaels 30 day shred and after 6 weeks of her DVD was fitter after my baby than before. It is 20 minutes and easy to do in between chores or during naps. I'm pregnant with my second baby now and still workout to her DVDs with modifications 2-3 times per week. When I'm not pregnant, I'll shoot for 4-5 times per week.

When I'm not having knee surgery, I was working out 3-4x a week. Mainly lifting quite heavy because I was trying to get stronger for my surgery. My cardio sucked and once I'm given the okay to go back to the gym, I definitely am going to focus more on core and cardio. I miss the gym!

Before I got pregnant I was doing T25 and I loved it. I got really fit and actually didn't gain any weight while I was pregnant (I was really sick and originally lost 25 pounds in my first trimester, and even after gaining weight I never gained more than what I lost.)

I only had my daughter 4 weeks ago but I'm anxious to get back to working out. Hopefully since it's only 25 minutes I can find the time to do it with the baby and work.

I do find it funny that so many barrel racers put so much time and energy into keeping their horses fit but rarely dedicate any effort into keeping themselves fit.  While I don't barrel race, I do rope a lot.  When I keep myself fit, my roping improves significantly. I run 5 miles 3 times a week and go the gym 2 days.   I know it was a joke about being the best at exercising...but I really have seen improvement in my own abilities as I have put the work in to stay in as good of shape as my horse.

My motto has been I will work just as hard as I ask my horses to-keeps me getting my workouts in especially on the days I don't feel like it.  I have more confidence knowing I am strong and fit.

Confidence is the key. If you're concerned about your weight you are probably not going to ride as aggressively as you would otherwise.   If you are just lazy and out of shape...then you probably don't care that much anyway.

I totally agree with you both! I workout 5-6 times a week, always mixing it up. I am a runner and enjoy cardio, but also do weights and plyo. I am buying a rowing machine for the winter to go with my treadmill. I also eat healthy.  Being in good shape gives you much more confidence.  I always view my horses and I as a team effort, I want us both to be in shape and working to the best of our ability.
