Location: Lost in the swamps | Would you pay upwards of 5,500.00-6,500.00 for say a 3-d-4d 200+entry kid horse solid consistent same run every time. has potential to be faster. No tricks? I think if it's safe and consistent , reg mare 10 yr old? I' 'm shopping for a client. I think the horse is worth 5. Going try the horse this weekend and If all is well schedule a vet check. But some people I have been talking to say they want too much? I feel if my gut says it's a good deal and personally out if the 100's of horses I've looked at I feel If I would be willing to purchase it for my child so would my client. (They love her) . I'm looking out for my customers child's safety and don't want to over-mount her . She is currently running a 4-5d mare that is difficult to ride. Which she rides her better than I do! She's a hand! We want something fun and no tricks that will hopefully last her for a couple of years and ready to move up. Guess I'm Looking for some reassurance and looking to vent! Lol

Location: Wonderful Wyoming | We just paid $2500 for a super fat ranch horse, APHA breeding stock that turned out to be 14 not 10 when we got the papers found for us. He works great for my 7 yr old and we thought he was a pretty good price considering people are asking that for 18 & 20+ yr old kid safe horses. We also had a month long trial period before we had to pay for him.
So for a horse that actually knows an event, that sounds like a decent price range. |

Location: Lost in the swamps | Thank you all!! I haven't done the "go find me a horse to buy thing" much and these people have been with me for 3 years and are ready to buy a step up. For me 5,000 is a lot to spend. And the more I see videos of this mare the more I'm in love myself and would buy in a heartbeat I I had the money! And would love for them to have her. |

| Sounds cheap to me! Seems like the kiddos are mounted on real 1D horses these days, so I would expect a 3D youth horse to be right around the same as a 3D open horse. |

My mom also has a little girl that she helps and hauls. They just bought her a step up horse. The horse was originally priced at $7500, pretty consistent 3-D. The gal had come off that price by the time my mom found him. But he is great. Laid back, safe, but can run. He should suit her well for several years. And he's young so he can then go to another little girl if they want to sell. |

If you can find a SAFE horse that the child feels comfortable on AND the horse feels comfortable with that child PLUS you expect the horse to already KNOW and DO it's job safely and quietly, then $10,000 is not too much to spend.
SO, the horse you are going to look at is a BARGAIN as long as the child and horse fit together in personality and ability.
If the buyer is NOT looking out for their child's safety and positive experience then DO NOT GET INVOLVED, because if something goes wrong you will be the first they will blame, then the horse. So make sure you feel comfortable that the horse is a good match too.

The people im looking for want the horse already. We have a very good relationship. They trust my judgement. And want to put a deposit Based on videos alone. I told them do not put deposits before we go and try the horse and see if they will click, then do a deposit And vet check and go from there. I do not like the ideas o purchasing sight unseen, we have been burned before. A few years ago. Horse turned out to be a crowhopper, looked at the parents and said he needs to go. They know I do not put up with foolishnessand they know in my mind her safety comes first, regardless of how fast the horse is. She is like a child to me and she actually calls me momma. :) |

Location: In my own world | A month ago I paid $7500 for a 17 yr old been there done that rodeo gelding. Barrels poles and goats for my 11 yr old daughter who had been thrown hard and wouldn't ride for a year. He was 1D local 2D big shows with a college kid rider. Now he trots exhibitions. But she clicked with him and he is a gem to be around. She can do everything with him. He load and unloads himself. Puts his head DOWN so she can bridle or halter him. Could he have been cheaper? I guess but he fit my bill and budget so we snatched him up. |

| I really am in the need for a 3/4 D kids horse and only want to spend 5 to 65 hundred. I am not going to over mount my child! I really could do this with out buying anything because all my horses are Pro quality.
I am a mother first and then a coach, I teach horsemanship, not only to my child. But to some of the county's up and coming barrel Racers. I need to keep our lessons positive'! |

| It's hard to put a price on the safety and happiness of your child....because it's more than 5K. I sold a pony that would trot a playday event with a 3 year old for $2500. The guy that picked her up said 'My dad paid $2500 for my first rope horse, handed me the cash and drove off.....Later sent me pics of the 4 year old....then the 13 month old on the horse...I think he got more than his money's worth.
It's very hard to find the kind of a horse you have found....but I'd snap it up, cuz I bet there's a bunch of folks on this board that would snag it in a minute.

Location: Lost in the swamps | UPDATE: sooo excited!!! we bought her!! Went to try her, and we both fell in love!!! Even offered to go in with them on the purchase price!! Rode like a dream! she is everything we wanted! And is everything the seller said she was! Vet checked clean as a whistle! Now we both get to run her!! Point and kick she turns!!! Plus Really takes care of the kid! Can't wait to see the lil team they become!!! And thrilled that I get to run her on occasion as a back up to my good horse! |

While you can go ahead and spend $100,000 on the safest, most bombproof horse possible, stuff still happens, horses are prey animals and DO spook. Or the horse trips and lands on the kid, I think the best thing to do is slap a helmet on the kid and teach them HORSEMENSHIP and horse safety. Unfortunately accidents do still happen |

Location: Lost in the swamps | Understandingly horses can be dangerious, parents are fully aware of these risks. She is required to wear a helmet at all times when she's in my care. When her parents are present she is encouraged to but that's between her and her parents. The girl had been with me for three years and it an amazing natural! She is ready to step up. I've been in it long enough and have made my fare share mistakes. I don't feel what we paid is outrageous at all. I just needed to vent a little I guess? Because I'm tired of people down here think you can find a "safe, competitive kids horse" for 1,000 bucks! NOT SO! And the ney Sayers think I'm nuts for wanting them to spend that amount. But their not the ones shelling out, my customers are! For a true one you will spend a lot more! Sorry for ranting!! But I'm gitty about this mare we found and the rest can eat dirt! Lol
