How do you market a horse that is temporarily unsound? One that will be sound again but not for another 6-8 months. How do you determind a fair price for one? I obviously will be taking a loss but I want him to go to a good home as well!

I think you will have a hard time selling him. You be better off rehab then sell if necessary.. There are to many things that would be to risky to a buyer imho.

If I had to sell the horse, I would be honest, have full disclosure. I would also have all reports, X-rays, ultrasounds, etc on an electronic file, and people who were seriously interested, I would send the file to them to review and consult with their vet.
I wouldn't expect to get more then meat price, as I have learned years ago there is no guarantee that a horse will be sound in 6-8 months.
You can set your price at whatever you want, but be prepared to be low balled, offended, and even rude comments.
