Location: west of East Texas | Chase had just finished her run in the 3D shootout today and was cooling her horse out in the holding pen. A stranger (Robin) walked up to Chase and asked to borrow her hat because Chase was the smallest one there and Robin thought her hat size would be small too. Robin had rushed from the trailer without her hat and was in the next drag. No time to go back and get the hat. The 6 3/4 hat fit great and Robin made her run, the hat stayed on. Afterward, she and Chase talked, discussed their horses and Chase shared that she had just started riding this one because of a possible career ending injury to her good horse. Robin shared that her horse has just come back from a long recovery time. And then......... Robin said "LET'S PRAY ABOUT IT." So in the holding pen of one of the biggest barrel races, a stranger prayed for my 12yo little girl's dream horse. When we got home tonight, I'm certain Geraldine was walking a little better and a little less swollen. Tears to my eyes! What are the odds that you would need to borrow a hat in the holding pen? What are the odds of a stranger's hat fitting you well enough to stay on for a 17.5 run? What are the odds that both had similar, recent injury and recovery stories? Thank you, Robin. You made several people feel good things today.
I posted this on the event page of ANHA Monday night. This exchange took place during the 3D finals. After posting I found out that Robin had another horse to run in the 1D and it was back at the trailer. It meant a lot before but said even more about that angel knowing she put her 'rush' on pause to spend this time looking at pictures and holding my little girl's hand praying. These are the moments that last forever. I'm going to keep this lesson in my heart forever. |

Location: west of East Texas | I guess I'm just all about updating my previous posts this week... I'm copying from my fb post...
I wish I had started the daily 'thanks' posts because these last two days have given me plenty to share. I may share today's every day for the rest of this month! Geraldine has been cleared to start putting a saddle on!!!! I repeat, Geraldine has been cleared to start putting a saddle on!!!! It's been 8 months since the initial injury and 5 months since the tendon tear. Her prognosis in July was 'come get her (from 4 months of horsey hospital), turn her out, pray, and ch...eck her again next year'. She was a hobbling, bag of bones, heartbreak to look at. Then Labor Day happened, remember my Robin Wardlaw Montague post? G has been so full of herself lately I scheduled a checkup for today. Although the xrays "look like a grenade went off in there", the lameness is nominal and we were told to start legging her up and see what she can handle. And today's prognosis - "I'd be surprised if she DOESN'T come back competitively." Chase and I both started jumping up and down and trying to pull rank on who gets to ride her first! Grateful for these gifts bestowed upon us!!!!!! |
