Hey y’all, I know summer is far off but I was wondering what y’all would think of doing a summer internship thing? Like I think it would very amazing to work and train with a pro barrel racer for the summer and go to shows with her and just get a taste of the whole rodeo life. I would like if she lived in North Texas or Oklahoma. I think it will be cool if it was one of those internship things when I live there for the summer and will be working with horses 5+ days a week? Are these type of internships even possible? Sorry if its a stupid idea but I just think id be able to learn a whole lot and enjoy it.

I don't know any where that you could get more experience. They have barrel Racing clinics year round. I guess they still have roping clinics too. They have the tack store where you can learn about every kind of bit and every other piece of tack. I guess The Mitchell trains his futurities horses there I don't think he has an arena at his house and he is always at the store.

I usually have a summer intern. They deal with the Child Gone WIld and me. They are out there. You just need to contact people and get something scheduled. My summer intern for 2016 applied last year. . her Mom was actually my summer intern in the mid 90s for a couple summers! Simply means I am old. Good luck!

I loved my internship summer 2014.. I couldn't do anything this summer because I had back surgery but its a wonderful experience. I interned with a girl that became one of my best barrel racing friends ( she lives in LA, im in MO). I took a notebook and wrote about things that I learned, pieces of advice, drills, etc so that I wouldn't forget anything later down the road (you can learn ALOT). But as another poster said you work a lot. My friend and I fed 17 horses starting at 5 am and groomed/ saddled, warmed up and walked out horses. cleaned stalls, etc. I really want to do another internship summer 2016. Good luck!!
