I am 54 years old, weigh 162 and 5 foot 4 I have been trying to lose weight for about 6months. My daily food intake is, no breakfast, a salad for lunch then for dinner 1/2 cup mashed potatoes, 1/2 cup corn, 1pork shop. No bread for a snack I might eat 1 cup chips. Right now I have a stress factor in the lower left leg so don't exercise much. I also eat LOTS of fruit. Grapes, pears, apples from my trees so no pesticides on the fruit. What can I do to get this fat off of me.

No potatoes and no corn, lots of good veggies of all colors, eat breakfast, you are slowing your metabolism by not eating, small meals throughout the day which slows down anyway as we age.

Change up your dinner veggies and your pork chop to chicken or fish. Eat your pork chop on the weekends. Snack on almonds or other nuts instead of chips. (raw and plain)

Start with small, manageable changes.

Also, I don't know what you are drinking but don't "drink your calories" or drink pop. Water with lemon.

Eat breakfast.  Get your carbs mainly from fruits and veggies, and eat a little protein with them.  A smear of peanutbutter or a little piece of cheese with fruit makes an awesome snack and will help moderate the blood sugar spike from the fruit sugars.  Brown rice, old fashioned or steel cut oats, and quinoa are good choices if you feel like you need grains, eaten with a little fat and protein for balance.   Most of your calories should come from breakfast and lunch, fuel for your day.

Don't be afraid to branch out and buy fruits and veggies from the store or farmer's market. Despite what the memes on FB say, there is no evidence that pesticide residue causes weight-gain.

Eat your protein and big leafy greens!! Avoid high starch foods like the corn and potatoes your eating. Eat breakfast, go for a 2-3 egg omelette with onions, peppers, and spinach and a cup of berries on the side, for lunch go with 4oz of chicken breasts grilled on top of a spinach salad with balsamic vinaigrette on the side and an apple with a tblspn of nut butter, and for dinner, 4oz of meat again with a cup of broccoli or asparagus (no butter). Drink plenty of water, get 8 hours of sleep and if you need a snack, choose almonds, fruits, and veggies. You can do this!!

You are taking in too much sugar and starch (which turns into sugar). Eat high fat (no trans fat), High protein, low starch and low sugar. Good example is that you can still have your pork chops. Have your salad...with spinach (no croutons), apple, grapefruit. Penut butter or some dark chocolate when you have a sweet tooth. Granola also. Very little dairy...but 1 cup of milk, or yogurt is fine. Do some research on low starch veggies and fruits that are low on the glycemic index. More protein than anything else.

Weight Watchers would be a really good choice for you. I've never done it, but my husband has.  I haven't needed to because:  I am 5'2 1/2"...weight 127..age 55...I cannot eat potatoes, corn, and too much fruit and still maintain my weight....carbs pack on the fat!  Plus they make you stay hungry and also causes the crash that sabotages people so badly...steals energy and motivation.   You don't do bread but all the carbs you are taking in turn into sugar just as bread does.

I was just at the doctor yesterday for a physical....he went over my weight the past 10 years and even though I'm at the heavier end of my "norm"...it has flunctuated in a very consistent way of staying in the 120's...low 120's to high 120's for many, many years...I'm always in the 22 range of BMI which is the main thing...staying in the correct BMI....if I ate potatoes, corn and TOO much fruit (I do eat fruit everyday), my weight would get out of control very easily.  I feel really bad when I eat the wrong foods and if I feel too heavy....that's my motivation for keeping my weight under control...I do not like to feel bad.  Good luck with finding what works for you.  Healthy is the best way to go!!!

this is great advice!!! My suggestion would be to go to Amazon and order the book called Trim Healthy Mama!! It helped me lose about 25lbs in 8 weeks by just cutting out processed sugar, flour, and separating my fats from my carbs. Its easy to do because you can eat real, clean, food. After I got through detoxing from sugar (which was h*ll) I felt amazing.

Yes, you need to stay away from starchy veggies and eat breakfast.  Since you like fruit, eat a fruit for breakfast.    Another thing is drink a large 8-16oz glass of water before you do anything in the morning.
The starchy veggies are potatoes, corn, and peas.  Those have points values for Weight Watchers.  The others are considered zero.
Carrots, green beans, lettuce, broccoli, spinach, zuchinni, tomatoes, radishes, celery, etc are all zero.
Fruits are considered zero too, but if you eat too many of them, then they do add points, because of the sugars.
The veggies and fruit act as fiber, which helps your digestion.  If you eat protein rich foods, like pork, chicken, turkey, almonds, etc, between the protein and fiber, you won't be hungry.

The fruit is likely your problem, fruit is loaded with sugar.  A piece of fruit a day is good....LOTS of fruit is going to make you fat.

This breakfast thing is going to be really hard but I am going to start in the a.m. I eat the fruit with no pesticides because we have the trees and it is so easy to go out in the yard an pick an apple or pear or grape or two. Plus I love that type of fruit. I have started eating lots of fruit during the day either grapes with peanut butter or grapes with cheese. We only get about 17 mins for lunch so I have to scarf down what I can get in me. I am also packing my lunch each night to bring the next day which is a salad or progressive soup. I am just going to have to convince myself that potatoes are bad for me and cut them out.
Thanks for all the advice I am going to try my best to stick with this I will keep y'all informed. I hope by Christmas to be down at least 20 lbs.

INCREASE your fat intake. YES, I said INCREASE it. Decrease your carb intake. Take out ALL breads, wheats, pasta's, etc. If you don't know what is a true carb, learn. Don't worry too much about the fruit and veggie carbs though. You need to increase your fruits and veggies if you are like most people. Eat enough meat. I don't care if it's red, white or other. Increased fat does NOT include gravy though, unless it is flour free. A little corn starch maybe. There is actually a "Peanut Butter Diet" that has you eat a tablespoon of peanut butter before every meal. The fat and protein fulfills your appetite so you eat less "fillers". A great desert is fresh berries w/nuts, and cream. YES whipping cream! Again, stay away from the sugars and wheats, grains, etc.... The book "Protein Power" is a great read. It's a oldie but goodie and gives you lots of meal ideas. Good luck! You won't feel hungry on this diet...

And stay away from artificial sweeteners in Diet Coke and a lot of diet drinks...this includes Splenda and Sweet & Low...they are really toxic to your liver and your liver health is so important when it comes to burning fat.

Of note about detoxing from sugar:  When I am eating really healthy and behaving myself the very best...as in little to no sugar and eating meats, veggies, nuts and only 1-2 fruits a day, very little grains...what I call God's food with almost no processed food in my diet at all; I feel almost ridiculously good!  As in so much energy it's hard to explain...a natural "high" maybe?  When I am not eating as well as I should...tired, moody, grumpy, and my body kind of aches compared to when I'm eating the good stuff.

Gut health is an extremely important factor when you are trying to lose weight and can't. Get on a good Probiotic. Once your gut flora is better and at a healthy level you should start seeing changes. Drink LOTS of water. I can not stress this enough. Water helps the body eliminate toxins from the digestive tract and blood stream. Try to drink at least half your weight in ounces a day.

Also, don't fixate on the scale. Do measurements as well. You might find that you are losing inches before pounds.

You are right I didn't mention the cheese or peanut butter I don't eat that every day just once in a while so I didn't think about it. The water consumption will be hard because I teach school and can't leave class that much. You this old bladder ant what she used to be. Will unsweet tea hurt. I LOVE unsweet tea. I drink it quite often. I don't allow my self but one soft drink a week if that much. Only on special occasions. I will not drink a diet drink unless that is all I have and I really need something to drink. Thanks for all the advice.

Are you also incorporating exercise into your routine? I ask because if you are you are not eating enough, losing weight is about getting your metabolism working correctly. Without consistent intake of GOOD fats, carbs and proteins your body will get confused and start storing fats to maintain itself. I am a huge Weight Watchers fan because it gives you the LIFE LONG tools to lose and maintain your goal weight. Locating a WW meeting group in your area is a great idea...support and information are what your get at those meetings HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Best of luck, everyday will present new challenges and remember a bad moment of eating something wrong DOES NOT mean you have failed!! Always look for an opportunity out of the challenges instead of finding an excuse "why not".

Maybe get the app Lose It or MyFitnessPal. The apps help you track your required nutrition for the day (based on your weight, age, gender, level of physical activity, and weightloss goals) like protein, carbs, sugars, fat, cholesterol, vitamins, etc. If you don't have a smartphone that can download apps, you can still do the apps on your computer. They each have a website. Look online for meals that are healthy and well balanced. What do I know I'm about to drink a "sodapop". LOL

I work with a nutritionist -- working to improve my diet as an older person. She is adamant that I always eat breakfast and then eat every 2-3 hours throughout the day.... Protein is important as is fiber. She has coached me toward the Mediterranean diet -- fish, veggies. and some fruit... I avoid bread and sweets and rarely eat potatoes -- perhaps a baked sweet potato every now and then. No fried food - we steam, saute, bake or roast. We love roasted veggies. I love Clif bars - they are great for my mid-morning snack and afternoon -- or a protein shake. I limit my daily calories to 1800. Keeping a journal of everything you eat will help you -- I am at the point now I can keep up with it in my head -- but kept a food journal/calorie journal for a long time. According to the nutritionist, it is important to keep your body from thinking it is starving -- thus the need to eat every few hours -- it's best to "graze" through your day. And drink plenty of water! As far as exercise, she told me 20 mins. of walking a day would be great -- or walk the stairs at work during lunch - just make the effort to "move" every day for a period of 20 to 30 minutes. I do "jog" part of my walk.... to get my heart rate up. Of course, she also knows we live on a farm and I have rather vigorous barn / farm chores, too, that add to my exercise. (And I wear a Vivofit to help me keep up with making my daily steps.) Good luck!!

I was looking at the web site, but it didn't say much about how it works. Is it mostly portion control and controlling how much you eat? If so, I know it won't work for me. Or are there products or foods that you can eat pretty much all you want? I have only had any success with the low carb diet because I can eat as much as i want. They all say the same thing, lol.... That it really does make you feel full, but I never do. I'd love to find a diet system with prepared meals and snacks where I can eat as much as I want without having to prepare any food.

I am down 20 lbs since July 24. I am 52 so can relate on the age.
My sister-in-law is down 65 lbs since June 1.
My coach is down 120+ since January.

This works and you get to eat.   The program uses nutritionally balanced meal replacements five times a day and a lean and green meal once a day.   Weight comes off fast and easy and your coach will help you learn better health skills and help you keep the weight off once you hit your goal weight.

I have truly been amazed at this program.

I'd replace the chips and mashed potatoes with fresh vegetables of some kind. Also, breakfast is what gets your metabolism performing at its highest rate, so you arent giving yourself that boost. If you eat within 45 minutes of waking up, and monitor your calorie intake, you will be better off.
