We are guessing the age of the filly to be between 4 and 6 weeks old (there is a long complicated story as to why no one knows for sure how old she is and how we acquired her). There is still about 1 inch of dried umbilical cord attached. I am not an experienced foal owner so I am wondering if I should take her to the vet or leave it and see if it falls off. It is not sensitive or inflamed just dried up and still attached. Is there anything I can put on it to help?
Dip it in some iodine a low % iodine solution I want to say the one I have is 7% ...just be careful not to get it on their skin as it'll burn the hair off...it'll dry it out and keep bacteria out of it ...if you did that already and it's still there at 6 weeks then I'd probably let a vet peek at it and see what they think...they don't usually hold on that long.

Thanks. She was born on the range so there was no dipping (her mom was an escapee). I'll try it now and see what happens.
