I am in the process of registering a colt, but kind of waiting to see what color he will turn out to be. He was born a sorrel but is now shedding out to a /darker color with golden legs.
Dad is palomino & mom is bay (her parents were buckskin & roan)
According to the color calculator he has highest chance to be buckskin or bay, but with light/golden legs I don't think he will be either.
Any idea? I'd like to get his papers sent of soon!

If he's red now he will probably stay red. It's just spliting hairs on whether his is sorrel or chestnut. I'm not sure why they even have both choices on the application. Red is genetically red. There is no difference just because they have a shade of red. If there is some other gene involved causing flaxen mane and tail, write that in the color of mane and tail section.

My mare was born the prettiest sorrel color. Her sire is a palomino and her dam a bay. She shed off her baby hair to the darkest hershey chocolate chestnut. Noone believes me that she was born red. So maybe a chestnut?

He is red. You can register him as sorrel or chestnut. It really doesn't matter. Genetically they are the same. Foals usually shed off DARKER as foals than what their adult color will be. He could easily be "cherry red" when he sheds off as a yearling.
