Location: Cocoa, Florida | I've read a few different articles on what different whorls and swirls mean on horses foreheads, I've never had one like this, I noticed yesterday there are twins right next to each other! Hope it's not a bad thing, if you believe in that stuff hah! Anyone have any unique whorls!?!?

| I have a couple with the double swirl....I hope you get better feedback then I am going to give you......The can be a little bipolar. ....Flighty in certain conditions.Takes a calm rider to direct their attention. They can get distracted very easy. Very curious. Get themselves into trouble.. high energy. BUT....they will give you everything they have and sometimes way much more. With alot of patience can make a nice horse. My husband HATES them |

| IMO it's kind of like horoscopes with people. I don't really believe the whirl pattern on a horse's head determines their personality. haha but each to their own. |

| Years ago there was actually an article in horse and rider about swirls.
From what I remember and what I have experienced is two swirls are the hard headed horses. More prone to blow up, buckers, but if you get through to them, they are awesome horses.
A single swirl a little above the eyes and off to the right is supposed to be the best horse, smart, kind, calm. |

| My crazy gelding fit his whorl/swirl chart to a T. Hard to handle, Super Smart, Stubborn, bi-polar, but will work the hardest when they want to. So it worked for him, take that as you will. |

Location: Washington. (The DRY side.) | The most hard headed, bucking counterfeit horses I have ever known were all single swirl horses. My 2 favorite mares have both had double horizontal swirls. Easy for ME to deal with and very sweet, calm, and level headed. |

Location: Sunnyland Florida | Double whirl horses are definitely "special". In the pic you showed, the whirls are low, which is good. Double whirl horses (low or high) are Great horses, just fragile and if handled with care & taken along slowly, are Awesome!! High double whirled horses are typically super fragile minded and flighty, and I've owned quite a few. Lower double whirls are still fragile but a litte more stable, LOL.
It's Good! |

Crap that acually describes my double whorled gelding to a T. He is the best barrel horse anyone could ask for. LOVES his job, is so solid and consistent, but my gosh he is a PITA to deal with the rest of the time! |

| I've read up on swirls and their meanings. I'm not convinced it is always an accurate description of a horse's personality, but sometimes it is. They say that one swirl centered between the eyes is ideal, this will be a predictable, consistent type horse (I guess, whether they're good or bad they'll be consistent at it!) If the swirl is above the eyes then they're focused, intelligent, could be hyper alert, might try to outsmart you. If it's below the eyes then they're imaginative, get bored quickly, could be stubborn, Houdini like (unties ropes, etc.). Two swirls side by side means they're very focused, talented, good work ethic. So, hope this one's right for you, since this is what your horse has. It's the two swirls one on top of the other that's supposed to be bad. They're supposed to be untrustworthy, unreliable, and accident prone. Now, my favorite mare ever has two swirls like this, but they're close together. She's a very nice horse, I get along with her great. So, I guess she disproves that one. Supposedly, each swirl represents a different personality. When swirls are far apart this is bad, they're like Dr. Jekyll and Hyde. However, when the swirls are close their two split personalities are so similar you can't tell the difference. Three swirls are rare, complex individuals, best for experienced riders. They say that stallions with multiple swirls are dangerous. I do check out the swirl on any new horse I might buy, but it's good to check out a lot of things then.

| One of my current rodeo horses has two swirls. One on top of the other and close together. She is not mean or unpredictable at all. She is very easy to deal with and runs great. She has a few small quirks about walking into dark concrete areas, but nothing phases her at rodeos or just about anywhere else. So I dont believe she fits the mold for swirls. |

Location: Gainesville, TX | Honestly, I think its pseudoscience but there have been a few interesting studies on it. Here's the most detailed source I've seen on what they are supposed to mean.

ETA: a little more
http://horseandrider.com/article/horse-hair-swirl-patterns-13160
above includes mention of a study by Temple Grandin on 1500 cattle (which shows some reliability)
