Me and my husband have been having a hard time deciding on what to do; buy a new colt next year for a good price (break them in and everything) while our daughter gets my good horse (who will be 7 next year) OR wait and just buy a kid-broke horse that will be a little more expensive to buy. My daughter isn't even 6 months old yet but I'd love for her to ride with me as soon as possible. My horse could be a good kids horse but I also am pretty happy right now not working with any younger horses.
Basically it boils down to a money issue. We can buy a kids horse that will be around $5,000 - $7,000 or give her my horse and buy a colt for $1,000 - $2,000. Any help and/or advise would be great!!

Why don't you just buy a mini pony? Hate to say this, but your daughter doesn't have enough blance to ride alone just quite yet. I had my daughter ride with me until she was almost 2 years old.

Worth the investment for a pony, and will last several years until she needs a step up horse. Remember, a horse is a long fall compared to a pony.

I would wait and buy a kids horse when she is ready to ride.

Well if your kid is only 6 months old you have a while to decide! If you think your horse will be a good kid horse and you have the time and energy to start a colt then go for it. But if you're attached to your horse and want to keep running them get a kids horse. It's not like you don't have a few years to save for it if necessary.
