Location: California | Its about time I can post a happy update! After his momma was lame for a month and then diagnosed with kissing spine I really needed a pick me up and Ace didn't let me down!
Ace really hasn't had any consistent riding until this month. I'd ride him for a week, maybe two and then he'd sit for a month or longer. Well when his mom went lame he was promoted to my main mount. Almost every day after work we haul to the arena down the road (we have to cross a very busy road so i choose to haul instead of risk it, i used to pony him off his mom), and we work on basic body control and do a few random barrel drills. He is still green so he still has his, nah lets do it this way moments. I can't say it enough about ho awesome minded this gelding is! We just saddle and go, no lunging or anything. He had never seen the poles or done the pattern before yesterday.
Today we head to a barrel race in an indoor arena with a pretty scary alley way. Unfortunately I don't think I'll have anyone to take pics or video :(
ETA: It wouldn't let me upload my favorite pics!

He's not near as soft through his body and face as I'd like him to be but he is getting way better with consist riding of course. He was FANTASTIC today at a way busier barrel race at a scary indoor with a horse eating alley way ;) lol. No videos since I was alone, I do have one pic IF bhw will allow me to upload it.

I agree! They are very smart! Even now in the beginning stages he will hunt a barrel and want to turn and WORK! I wish I could have gotten a video of Sunday's 2nd exhibition. He was way more focused and dialed in! He dOscar get bored with too much repetition so we keep switching this go up and only do the actual pattern to get a video. I am VERY glad I never ending up selling him! |

Location: California | Recent pics. Ace will be 4yrs old in June (yes I'm aware most go by Jan 1st). Just ignore my face, I was telling him there was no boogie man under the crows nest at barrel number 2.
With his dam. Serenity is 14.3hh at the hip.

Serenity had both navicular bursas injected 2 weeks ago and feels better then ever now! Did some slow work on barrels Monday after Ace had his teeth floated and she felt awesome! Hopefully we finally have the feet issue under control so I can focus on building her top line back up to help try to prevent inflammation from the ks. |
