I see another I70 series this year...... With the same result.. I just don't see any team that can beat the Royals in a race to 4. |

That's not so bad... I was talking to my dad on the phone the other day. I asked if he had his next wife picked out yet. He panicked and said NO!! WHY?? I told him the Cubs had a shot at the World Series this year.... (The last time that happened was the year he married my mom....1945) My dad turned 93 this year.. I tug his chain every chance I get.

I don't see Wainright being able to start any games, just may pitch some out of the bullpen. His stamina is not up yet and he is still having a little trouble moving off the mound even though his pitching still seemed great----AS ALWAYS. I must admit, when he went down I figured the Cardinals were done---they weren't. Then Dunn went down, surely they gotta be done now---they weren't and so on and so on and so on. I am a die hard Pirates fan but ya just gotta admire what the Cardinals have over come this year---WOW. |

I too thought we (the Cardinals) were done when we lost Wainright at the end of April... I'm still trying to figure out how we won 100 games this year!!! But in order to stay on top we HAD TO!! We had the Pirates and the Cubs 'Tail-Grabbing our a$$' for the whole season!! (and it ain't over yet!) Either one could still knock us off....and we still have the Dodgers to worry about.... THEN!!! We have to face the Royals or those silly Bluebirds from Canada. I don't believe we have the pitching staff to overcome either of those team.

Bout knocked the cover off of it, infield single, lol. Those wheels caught another gear and he was safe. So happy for him, our hometown kid. I haven't followed pro baseball in years till now. |

Location: Bastrop, Texas | It's going to be fun watching this post season. The Astros really came out of nowhere this season, and they are for real. Nice to see the Cubs in the playoffs. The Royals are no longer a Cinderella team, but a classy organization that clearly was dominant most of the season. Toronto made some aggressive moves to acquire several big name players who fit in to their lineup very nicely, and this vaulted them past the Yankees, Orioles, Rays, and Red Sox. I think they have to be the favorites to win the AL championship, although they aren't my personal favorites. In the NL, the Cards are the team to beat.
What's fun is the fact that in baseball you just never really know who will emerge as World Champions. So many times the unbeatable teams get knocked off, often times early.
If I had to take a wild guess, I'd predict the Cardinals over Toronto in 7 games to win it all. |

Location: Bastrop, Texas | As an aside, my Minnesota Twins surprised almost everyone this year. They were in the hunt for the playoffs right up into the final weekend. They had several exciting Rookies show a lot of talent. The real secret to their surprising success was their new manager, Paul Molitor. I think the Twins have the best defensive outfield in baseball, with three off the fastest players in the game, all of whom are capable of playing all 3 positions, and all of them having cannons for arms. The infield is pretty well solidified as well. Very young team. I love how they play sound fundamental baseball, and you never hear about bad behavior on or off the field. Classy organization that does a lot for the community as well. I'm proud of them and can't wait till next year. |

yup!! 113 pitches, complete game, 4 hit shutout against the Pirates. I'd say that qualifies him as a stud. Cubs move on as the NL Wild Card to Play the Cardinals. |

Location: Bastrop, Texas | Arrieta pitched a masterpiece last night. He's really had a phenomenal year.
When you look at his numbers and his performance all year long you realize he's been pitching like that throughout the season. He was just untouchable.
He has to be the favorite for the Cy Young. I can't even imagine facing a guy like that. You can't help but like the Cubs, and the way they've been managed. That NL Central division is clearly the toughest in baseball. The top 3 winning records in all of baseball come from the NL central. I can't imagine winning 97 games and ending up in 3rd place.
I'd love to see an Arrieta/Keuchel matchup, with both pitchers on 5 days rest. A Cubs/Astros World Series would be any true baseball fan's dream.

Who would have thought that their first 3 runs would not be from the long ball? Wow.
And Colin McHugh was awesome! And the "D" was incredible behind him.

Now, tonight is high school volleyball. Sigh. I'm hitting the gym door at a run when the last point is scored so that I can get home to watch tonights game!

That being said, I find it funny how quiet both sides are for this Cubs/Cards match up. But I think the world should be prepared for the Poo talking to start after the series is decided!! But I will say, if the Cubs do decide to pull one out, I would probably have to root for them, just for the fact that they've been so terrible for so long.

LOL, I really like Rasmus, too. He cracks me up. They asked the Astros about their guilty pleasures and he said well, he guessed his was he wanted a cattle farm and was finally able to buy one. I just thought that was too cute! His attitude was an Aw, shucks, kinda thing. |

| I saw that! Too cute!
I've read a couple of articles about him when he was on his previous teams.....and it sounded like he was not well liked - in the clubhouse or in the stadium. I find that interesting. I guess HTown is the right place for him at this point in his career!
I also think their team chemistry is thru the roof - Springer-Dinger, Mr Hustle Altuve, CutiePatootie Tucker, ColbyJACK, Carlos WOW Correa, Gentle Giant C Carter, Great Gattis, J Castro, L Valbuena, Hunka-Hunka J Marisnick, The Beard Kuechel, Precious McCullars, Nerdy McHugh, RingLeader Hinch, etc.
They are just fun to watch. |

Location: Bastrop, Texas | The Royals are in a must win situation. It will be very hard to go to Houston, down 2-0. Houston is the toughest team to beat at home in the majors. Keep in mind, though, that the Royals took both games in Camden Yard last year, as well as both games in Anaheim last year, so if anyone can do it, the Royals can.
I think Texas surprised a lot of people by defeating Toronto's ace, David Price, in Toronto. Toronto is in a similar must win situation. The Rangers are going to be without Beltre because of a back injury, and that's huge. They have to replace him with a 22 year old rookie with minimal experience and a .220 average. Maybe Josh Hamilton will pick up the slack somehow.
It would be interesting if this turns out to be an "all Texas" ALCS. Over 5 decades Texas has never produced a world champion in baseball.
I think the Cubs-Cards series should be a great matchup. The Cubs look like they are peaking, and the Cards have quite a few injury issues. Just because the Cubs were the last wild card doesn't mean they are a pushover. They won 97 regular season games, the 3rd best record in the majors, and were in the toughest division in baseball. |

I agree. I'd have to cheer for the Cubs if the Cards' founder on the NL side of things.... But Missouri still shares the Royals with Kansas so I'd be rooting for them in the WS. |

Rangers pulled off a deflating extra inning win over those Canuks....yay. LOL
It's going to be very hard for Toronto to pull this series off, especially in Arlington. It's been done before though.
Cubbies ran into tough pitching today.
Mets/Dodgers should be a real good game tonight. |

I had to listen to yesterdays game while driving from Austin to Houston. I think most of the traffic on 290 thought I was NUTS screaming in my car!
Today's game should be interesting - starting rookie McCullers at pitcher for the Stros. He's got wicked stuff - I hope he can bring it.

Kinda sad they keep walking Rasmus on purpose. Wussies...
I think they can take it today! |

mervyn11 - 2015-10-12 8:38 AM Wow! I can't believe the Astros are in this position. I will be watching today's game on my iPad at my desk - wishing I was at Minute Maid. Go Stros! #hustletown

Yep, Astros faltered and the Royals, being the great team they are, took advantage. Hats off to them for a great comeback! Tuesday should be another great game. |

Location: Bastrop, Texas | Texas has had 2 major league teams and over roughly 50 years has never produced a world champion. I figured with both teams in the playoffs this year, maybe they have a good chance, and it sure started out that way, but now it all boils down to one game for both.
I'm glad to see the Cubbies win. That was a real slug fest, even though Arieta had his worst outing of the season. One game to go, and they move on to the NLCS. Love to see that happen. To say the Cubs are overdue is an understatement. I love how Madden manages. |

Have fun people!
Good thing I'm a rule follower.....

| That is what good teams do....win when their backs are against the wall. Hats off to the Royals!
I was worried about 2 things in this series....(OTHER than the opponent!) And that was the Astros youth/inexperience and our bullpen. Our bullpen let us down yesterday but the rookies looked AWESOME! On to game 5! Proud of McCullers - he pitched a great game at 21 yrs old!
Still proud of this team!
Go 'Stros!

My nephews best friend, for probably 15 years now, just got called up by the Yankees. Rico Noel, speedster, usually pinch runs but he did get an at bat the other night. Bout knocked the cover off of it, infield single, lol. Those wheels caught another gear and he was safe. So happy for him, our hometown kid. I haven't followed pro baseball in years till now.
My last boss over on the East side has a nephew that spent a summer working with us after his senior year in HS just before he went on to collage. After collage the Mariners picked him up and have been bringing him up in the A+ clubs. His name is Brock Hebert and we like to think he'll get called up some day. He's putting up some pretty good numbers. |

(Although being a Royals fan, I think 30 years is long enough to wait for another series win)! |

| I would have almost BET the Royals would have lost last night - stretching this out as long as possible - just THINK of the money made on consessions, shirts, etc.
How do they sell tickets to the post season? I mean, how would you even know how many games would be played? Do you get your money back if you bought a ticket for a game that they didn't have to play? How's this all work? |

Location: Bastrop, Texas | The Jays screwed up when Cain scored all the way from first on a single to right by Hosmer in the bottom of the 8th. Bautista got caught sleeping and Tulo made a lame relay to the plate because he was caught off guard. Scoring from first on a single without an error is practically unheard of. Then, with one of the fastest runners in the game on 3rd and another runner on second, with one out, they couldn't manage to push even one run across.
THAT'S why the Jays lost. |

| Just got home from the game, it was one for the ages! Incredible talent on both teams. Wade Davis is the iron man of pitching. I thought the Blue Jays were going to tie it up with a man on 3rd and no outs top of the 9th but Wade Davis was the miracle man tonight.
Love the Royals...maybe I should turn BHW Royal Blue this week? Might have to think about that. :) |

Not real unheard of. If the count is full with 2 outs, the man on 1st will be running with every pitch because no matter what happens at the plate, he can do no wrong. If the batter walks, he's going that way anyway. Same thing with a hit. If the third out happens at the plate, He's lost nothing.

Last time it ever happened in the post season was over 90 years ago.
Even with 2 outs and a full count, it's rare to score from first, even if the runner is off with the pitch. In this case, he wasn't running with the pitch....PLUS he has a sore leg and hasn't been 100%.
Jays screwed up....Royally. |

What a way to start the Fall Classic! Great game.
I don't believe my heart can take very many more games like that one. I was spoiled as a Cardinals fan in the 70s and 80s because we had a roster loaded with speedsters, and 'Inside The Park Home Runs' were not uncommon. I honestly don't remember the last one I saw, but it's been a long time!!
GO ROYALS!!!!

Location: Bastrop, Texas | It really was a great game. I actually think this has been a fantastic year for baseball. There are a lot of great managers emerging. I love the cat-and-mouse game between these two very closely matched teams.
This post season has really shinned a spotlight on the importance of good base running and bunting. There's no excuse for a .300 hitter to fail to lay down a sacrifice bunt on TWO tries. I actually think it would pay for teams to hire a "bunting coach", based on some of the awful bunting attempts I've seen. Bunting just is not that hard. If Cain would have executed a proper bunt, I could have gone to bed 2 hours earlier! LOL |

Location: Bastrop, Texas | The Mets' threw their two best starting pitchers out there and lost the first two games. That's got to be discouraging. Both pitchers are big time strike out aces, yet they recorded only a total of 2 Ks in both games. The Royals just kept making contact and ran the bases aggressively. They had base runners on just about every inning. Cueto is a totally different pitcher at home vs on the road. He had their timing off all night. The last time an AL team in the World Series had a complete game was 24 years ago, When Jack Morris shut out Atlanta in 10 innings in game 7, which the Twins won 1-0.
Now the Royals have a completely rested bullpen going into NY. They have an uphill battle on their hands, for sure, and the Royals are riding a wave. |

Yep, after Tuesday's 14 inning game, not needing the bull pen last night is a huge advantage. |
