If what you say regarding your boss is true, you need to contact the company's Human Resource department. BUT remember.... for claims such as this there needs to be evidence. You can not accuse someone of these things with out proof. It is a very challenging pathway. IF you do decide to contact human resources, you need to do so in a mature manner. Your post above sounds exactly like what a 16 year old would say. You are young. I used to staff for an employment agency and I've got experience in human resources. Choose your words/course of action very carefully.

Banfield the pet hospital, is a good place to work when your younger. They have evening and weekend hours. Most will train you and you don't have to have a vet tech degree. My personal experience is its not great for long haul because of the politics, but great for part time. They are located all over.

I've worked at Banfield, but I very much preferred my vet tech job at the smaller, privately owned clinic. Vet tech work is great and it prepared me well for my career as a lab tech.
However, if you're still in high school you'll need an evening/weekend job and vet clinics with those hours are not easy to find, aside from the large emergency clinics.
Have you considered waiting tables? I loved serving and bartending, and walking out with cash every night! You aren't old enough to serve alcohol, but somewhere like Cracker Barrel that doesn't offer it would be perfect. You have experience in the food service industry already too.
Good luck! Also, sorry about your boss. I've worked with people like that before and I didn't stay long- not worth it!

It's sonic....not the best place to work anyways. I rarely even eat their food because of half the people I see working in them.

Check offices, they are sometimes willing to hire 16 year olds. Especially roofing companies.

Well if you're high school age you will have a VERY difficult time finding a job that you don't have to work at least some weekends. I would hit up any restaurants, retail stores, etc. and fill out as many applications as possible. IME if you get fired due to a psycho boss, it's hard to explain that it wasn't your fault without sounding like you're badmouthing the boss because they fired you. So do as many applications and interviews as possible so if one doesn't believe you hopefully another will.

I had a similar experience working at Sonic when I was 17. I didn't get fired, it didn't take me long to see how things were progressing with my nasty managers that couldn't catch a hint.

You could try feed stores, clothing stores, grocery stores, vet clinics.

Sounds like you need to apply at your local vet clinics then! They are typically daytime weekday, and the smaller one I worked at was only open 8-12 on Saturday. That may be the easiest way to find a job with those hours, because most jobs in food service or retail would want you to work evenings and weekends. Good luck!

I worked at Sonic years and years ago when I was in High School. Pretty good money for a teenager, we made minimum wage plus tips, it adds up. I agree you may have a hard time finding something that doesn't include nights and weekends, so good luck. Sonics are independently owned franchises, so you could always go to a different Sonic. They'd likely take you on if you have the experience.

I agree with all of this.

As far as your schedule...... you may get away with not having to work the night shifts often, but as for no weekends, I doubt you would be able to do that. Like someone else said, most retail and server jobs will require you to work nights and weekends. That is just they way it is when your starting from the bottom up. It will get better.

Get your drivers license and be a parts runner for AUTO ZONE, or one of the other parts places. They seem to like the girls driving around here and they seem to pay pretty well.

Checker in the grocery store. Most of my students work in the grocery store and checkers start out at a moderate salary and work their way up fast.

I worked at a grocery store in HS and even worked there during breaks the first few semesters of college. You automatically got off holidays and nights (well, past 8/9pm). My boss was great to work around schedules. I had just gotten a really nice horse and I told him I wanted Saturdays off to run if at all possible and he made it happen. I worked all day on Sunday and three school nights, but a grocery store should have some morning shifts.

check your grocery stores. most are pretty flexible with hours and time off since there are usually so many young employees. It'd be hard to find something at 16 that doesn't require weekend work.

But, If I were you I would try to open up your Saturdays and Sundays for specific hours or say I can work every other weekend etc. something like that.

Amen! This is what I did all through high school and college - made WAY, WAY, WAY more money and worked my OWN hours!

My sister has a job, and she just started her Massage Therapy business. She also cleans houses, cars, and does other jobs on the side.

I know a woman that works 8-5  seven days a week doing nothing but cleaning houses. She is so booked full of regular customers that she has to turn people away.

There is no shame in the cleaning game.

Heck when my son was 9 he earned over $250 just mowing yards during the summer, and he wasn't really out trying to get more yards to mow. He had to earn enough to neuter his dog, get all of his shots, and any treats or toys he wanted for the dog he had to buy. He could have easily made more money. He just didn't try because he met his goal lol.

Additionally, to the OP....you DO have a bad attitude. If I were your mother and saw what you had written (on a public forum) about your boss whether or not it is the truth, you wouldn't HAVE a laptop.....sometimes in the REAL world you need to be able to accept taking criticism and being fired without acting like a child!

Correct me if I am wrong but aren't you the one who scolded all the people who gave constructive criticism to you about your barrel run because you thought they were too mean?

I haven't read all the posts, but a great way to make money is serving. It's a little higher up then fast food and the money is decent depending where you go. I started at hooters, went to red lobster, bar tended in college, and then worked my way into 4 and 5 star restaurants. My parents stopped paying for me at 19 because my dad died and my mom ran out. Serving supported my horses, me, and my dog throughout college and beyond. I would say apply at like Longhorn, Olive Garden, Red Lobster, a nicer chain, and start off as a host or busser and work your way up. It's good money and was a lot of fun to do.

Try other sit down type restaurants not fast food. Most of them around here are ALWAYS hiring because they can't keep good workers. I don't know what state you are in so your laws may be different but try daycares. The one I was at for 8yrs was always hiring help to work non-school hours(330-530) and since your 16 you would be old enough. The pay wasn't that great but it was better than nothing. For a while you may not can be too picky about the days and hours you work. But the more you work the more likely you would be to get the hours you want.

Oh my goodness....are you kidding me? The kids these days don't REALLY want to WORK....those are jobs that require a little elbow grease......

Let's say SOME kids don't want to work. . . My son has been working on our family farm since he was 13----I mean laying poly pipe when it's over 105 degree heat index or loading planters all day with 50 lb sacks of beans---and started his own catfish farm 1 1/2 years ago. He is 17, goes to school til 1:15, has a 45 minute drive home, then starts on the ponds. He's built or rebuilt 3 ponds all on his own. He is up every two hours during the night to check oxygen. He works on his own equipment, figures his own budget, pays his own bills, schedules samples and seining, and still has all A's and B's in school. To say I am proud of him would be an understatement of monumental proportions.

Chandler has a friend the same age who worked for him some this summer and is still helping out a little right now----these two kids could teach most grown men I know a thing or two about hard work and dedication. . . .

This child is my world and I apologize for the proud momma rant!!!

Honestly, the "kids these days don't want to work" trope is just wrong. There are people in every generation that simply don't want to work for anything. I met a lot of extremely hard working kids when I worked in fast food - I also met a few lazy good for nothings. But the lazy good for nothings were pretty evenly spread among the generations. I also found that the most difficult coworkers were the older "adults" that couldn't handle having "kid" supervisors (that earned the position through hard work). I have a job in my actual career now and it is no where near as stressful, backbreaking, and defeating. In fact, it's pretty great. I don't think minimum wage should be raised to $15, but I'm really tired of this utter BS.

I am going to stand by my statements that “kids” don’t really want to work……having been a Supervisor over two manufacturing plants, I can tell you that I fired more “young” (under 25) people than older, for lack of doing their job. You can walk into any fast food restaurant or retail store and see those who just stand around and jibber-jabber with each other. Even those who attend college, get out and “expect” an easy road to success…..I applaud those who DO have children or know young people who actually “want” to work…..

We can use this OP as an example….her comments include.....I only want to work days….no evenings and no week-ends or not past “this” time…..well, guess what…..YOU are the employee and you don’t get to pick and choose when you “want” to work!

Most people don't WANT to work evenings and weekends.  But the cold hard fact is that people with minimal education, training, senority, experience, etc usually have to work the less then optimal times in order to gain the credentials to be picky.

My daughter had to give up a lot of social life, rodeos etc when she was in high school and college in order to fit a couple of very necessary jobs into her schedule. It wasn't all that much fun but she lived through it and got an education and the experience to move up the work chain.

You need to get over yourself, and do what you have to do even if it is not WHEN you want to do it.

Try chick fil a, if you have one near you. They hire kids, treat their employess fair and you make a decent wage. Also, they offer more opportunities than many ff places.

Sad fact most kids could not stand a good days work...forget the fast food joints that's easy labor.....many would not stay the entire day that required manual labor......not only do they think they are to good to work performing manual labor their parents seem to think the same thing......just think if we had kids to work pick peppers mellows etc......we would have less of a need for immigrants.....but that is another post.........

And agree.....NJJ....it is amazing to me to watch and listen to the workers.....just hanging out.......
