My mare has been vetted, and soreness has been ruled out. I believe this is a behavioral thing. I started rodeoing her, so she's pretty much been hauled by herself this season. Now, anytime we haul her with another horse, she is mad and kicks in the trailer! It is the same at a show when she's stalled next to other horses, whether they be ours or strangers. I don't want her to hurt herself. What can I do to prevent the kicking?

I think I remember a nice reining horse who is hobbled anytime he is in a trailer because he kicks. Sometimes it is just an attitude issue, and she is a mare so attitude it a serious possibility.

I would suggest hobbles myself.

Haul her in the last spot other wise hobble her. I have a horse that kicks other horses if he's not in the last slot.

I too, try for the kick chains first and will resort to hobbling if the kick chains don't get the job done. I got a Mr Jess Perry real cheap because of this issue. The day that I picked her up, she kicked the back window out of the trailer and mangled the dividers on either side of her. She hauls quiet as a church mouse with the kick chains on now.

I would assume one chain on each rear lower pastern without shipping boots on?

Okay, so I ordered two. Put them on the hocks or pasterns? And I got the fleece but reviews said shavings stick to them. What brand/type do you all recommend?
It doesn't matter what hole in the trailer she's in, she's still p.o'd. Lol, she's developed a chip on her shoulder. The rest of the time, she's a puppy dog.

I tried kick chains and reverse big shoes. The only thing that worked was back stall and hobbles. Never fought. At a show I would recommend putting tarps up around your stall so she can't see, nose, others. Can be an issue if it is hot for ventilation, but that helped our mare. I was like you and afraid she would hurt herself.

I use dog collars with chains (Go to tractor supply), Strapped above to each hock. My mare started to kick even with them on so I hobbled her. She rides great now! lol

At a boarding barn I managed, we had a stall wall kicking mare.  She wore kick chains.  Hers went on her pasterns.  And they were ALL chain. (and a snap.)  She was great with them on.  But you could tell, within minutes of her being brought in at night, if she didn't have them on.
