Hello,

I am looking to buy a chain bit and I was wondering what types/brands people use most and why. I am looking into the Charmayne James Chain Bit because I love the twisted pretzel bit, but I would like to hear first hand experiences and advice from multiple chain bits. Thank you!

I have a chain lifter bit from L&W that I love.  Thinking I might need the Cervi one, too.

Well the chain is just the mouth piece, what kind of bit do you need: a gag, something for more flexion, lift, a combination bit.......?

I need something that allows me to help a horse more in a turn on a horse that doesn't need a lot of bit.

A Rosie gag is always one of my "go to" bits.

I also like a Hodges futurity bit, but it has a noseband.

From what your describing you should try a simplicity chain.

I'm a fan of the Molly Powell by Reinsman bits for a chain bit and there's several choices depending on how much shank and leverage you need.

I love my Molly Powell bit for this -- check out "The Freshman". All horses I ride work great in it. I can give them the support they need, yet it's pretty mild.

I've used both the Carol Goosetree and the Ed Wright Chains.

If you want lots of gag - Goosetree

A little gag- Ed Wright open gag

No gag - Ed Wright Locked gag

I agree with this. I have a Molly Powell shanked chain bit and it gives me plenty of  control when he needs a tune up or on a big pattern where we need help with rate.

Only chain bit I use regularly is my double draw gag with a chain mouth. I love it for slow work.

Even though the chain mouth is nicer on their mouths than single broken smooth mouths are and provide less confusion since it conforms to their mouth without the nutcracker effect???

So you went the wrong direction with your sarcasm. Just saying. Educate yourself before you try to sound smart. :)

I have a very soft/light mouthed horse that has done really really well in a chain bit.. It's actually a no-pinch, s-shank large mouth chain.

I love love love it. It's actually a rope bit but my mare has done really well in it. Best of luck!
