My mom and I have been doing the Rescue Race together for years. It's fun!
I don't have a video, but last year we had a neighbor take a ton of pictures. We took 2nd place out of about 30 teams ... and my horse had NEVER done this event before and had never been ridden double before and my mom had maybe ridden him once before. (What a trooper!) The key, as you see, is you have to swing on "pony express" style if you expect to be the fastest.

Mid-swing

My mom's facial expression when they said our time!!!

Location: OH | This used to be HUGE back here in Ohio back in the day then everyone got worried about insurance and quit doing it. People got so good that you would just run the arena and old your arm out and one bounce and they were on--we called it The Pick Up Race though. |

I am so glad State Fair still does trailer race... thats the best!!!!
For those not familiar, Rescue probably has about 80 teams at the year end show. These are mainly the bloopers of the event. The winning run is in there (9.4) but there were several other super good pick-ups! There was a kid team where the jumper swung on the back and knocked the "driver" off. So the kid was on the back and no one on the front. It was pretty comical. Wish I ahd video'd that.
I was always the rider for rescue and was fortunate enough to have some great jumpers. I jumped one horse when I was younger. I have some awesome pictures of it. i will try and share.

We also do the Hangman's Race. Have some pictures from that same day. Once again, first time for my horse. We took 3rd place in that, out of a good 30+ teams.
The partner has to grab the rope, hang there while the rider and horse go around the barrel, pick up the "hangman", and head for home! You can't touch the ground or you are disqualified.
Good times.....
I remember one show many years ago where they 2 guys did the HangMan's race (different arena than this) and they came in so fast to the rope that when the back guy grabbed on, he swung HIGH HIGH into the air. They got lucky enough to have perfect timing that when the horse/rider were coming back, they perfectly were in place when the guy was on the down swing. It was pretty cool. (And a fast run! Needless to say, they won.)
Leaving me "hanging"

Going for the barrel...

Picking me up....

And we're home!

Location: MI | Haha! We did this at the last show of our playday this year. My daughters did it on the 28yo gelding they rode all year. We were so proud of how my 6yo climbed up on the tall gelding.

| KY State Fair has some of the best rescue racers ever. haha Most of them actually get on though. Even thought the bloopers are always hilarious!
I used to run my bat a$$ crazy gelding in this, he was small and he could haul so he was a perfect candidate. I'm always the runner not the jumper though. haha Fat people don't jump! We've had a lot of accidents doing this, and one thing I learned from all of this, and girls with long hair take note, If you are going to do this, wear your hair in a bun so it doesn't get used as a handle! That's how BOTH of us ended up on the ground! hahaha
