So a BB posted a link to a place north of Cedar City, Utah, an area hubby has liked as he truck through.

Any BBs around there? Access to good vets and blacksmiths? Any rodeos besides Pro? (I have held my WPRA card but don't have a standard pattern horse or standard pattern butt, lol)

Anything that would make me stay away (besides rattlesnakes? Am hoping this place is clear of them. :o) Anything to be aware of?

I really like the looks of this place!

I dunno but that place looked awesome for that kind of money.  I have been through there and thought it was a really nice area.

Where do you live now?  (never mind  I read the other thread)

I am in St George. Just 45 minutes south of Cedar. Where is the place you are looking at? We have tons of jackpot barrel races around here. And there are plenty of Ammy rodeos to go to during the summer.

You can barrel race just about every day of the week and at some of the bigger added money races to be found anywhere. Tons of rodeo's also. Utah is a very conservative state with a awsome governor. We pay $190 a ton for premium quality alfalfa. No blister beetles to be found in this country. Dry heat, no humidity, beautiful scenery.

There are 2 ammy rodeo associations I know of RMPRA & GCPRA. There is plenty of barrel racing and sorting is very popuular as well. Of course all the ropings you'd want. Most pens are large full set patterns but there are a few indoor pens that are very nice. SW Utah is close to big races all over the west. There are 2 HUGE races at the Souht Point Casino in Las Vegas and not to mention the WCBRA has a huge finals. Utah has some BEAUTIFUL hay up there too. Much of our hay here in NV comes from there. If you like, look me up on FB "Michelle Chappell" and I'll get you in touch with a BUNCH of UT folks :

I may hold you to that. Was worried that I'd have to give up alfalfa. :o) But it looks like we'd have to buy instead of raising our own. The water issue is a little scary what with having pretty much unlimited supply here. The drier summers sounds great to m, the milder winters appeal to hubby. The last bunch of summers have been hot and humid, more like Alabama than here, and then having to put up with the winters too.

Thanks everybody for responding and keep 'em coming!

edited to add: This particular place is near Milford. And the guy said he's never seen a rattler on his place and tried for 2 years to find one on the mountain where they are said to be common.

I have lived in the Southern Nevada desert nearly all my life and have only "heard" one rattle snake. We have plenty of good snakes around. Get on a plane, fly into Vegas, rent a car and drive around for a couple days :

When hubby gets home, we'll see how serious this might get, then would probably fly out, or load the semi out and both have a look see. The thing is, we're going to Vegas for the first week of the NFR/bucking stock sale. Pity it couldn't wait until then.

I live in Beaver, which is 50 miles north of Cedar city on I15.  Like the above posters said.  Lots of ammy rodeos and barrel races nearly every weekend.  The best part about Utah is most everything is located along I15.  You can be from St George to Ogden in less than 5 hours.  Everything is pretty close at 80mph.  Good horse culture, lots of farriers, lots of things to do.  Southern Utah is especially neat because of all the National Parks.  I've lived here all my life and not seen it all yet.

I lived in Cedar City from 2002-2006.  I really liked it a lot...a lot more than I originally thought I would.  I moved there for my job.  Lots of barrel racing nearby and I liked the climate.  I also liked that if it was cold in Cedar you could drive over the black ridge to St. George and it would be nice all winter long.  One thing I liked about the towns in southern Utah was the public access to indoor arenas that are owned by the city or county.

If it is the place I think it is, I wish I could buy it!!

I dated a kid from Cedar for 5 years and have spent lots of time down there.  Cedar is a college town but if you get outside to some of the smaller towns it is really nice.  I have always liked it down there.  The wind does blow a little and it gets cold but you can drive 45 minutes South and get out of it if you want to.

Lots of barrel racing and rodeos to go to.  Utah is a small state and you can pretty much get anywhere in a few hours.  Lots of good people down there as well.
