Location: Buckeye State | I found a Bob Marshall online for $800 and it looks like it is in good condition.
I was wondering about your opinions on treeless vs. treed for running. I personally have always run my horses in treed saddles, but I think I want to try this out. Any reason you wouldn't?
I did some research online but I know more about Billy Cooks than that brand, so I also wanted an opinion to make sure I wasn't getting ripped off. I can send pictures that she sent me if that would help.
Thanks in advance, everyone on here always makes me learn someting new! |

As far as running in a treeless, you want to have a high quality pad, I use a Saddleright with mine. I have one gelding that will never wear another treed saddle. He loves his treeless. The other guy, is ok in the treeless but I just prefer to run him in a treed saddle. He is super sensitive and I'm not riding him perfect yet. So he feels me shifting my weight around and reacts. The treed saddle gives me a little more room for error IMO. |

Location: Louisiana | Also, find out if it's a genuine Bob Marshall or a Circle Y. The genuine sell higher than the older Circle Ys. I have a new Circle Y treeless and have had a Bob in the past, but don't have experience with the older Circle Ys. |

Location: South Central Florida | There is a big difference in a Bob Marshal Original, and a Bob Marshal by Circle Y. the CY's are old for one thing but never ever as good as the originals.
I think it is horse and rider specific. We have a mare with very odd withers, the saddle that fits her the best is a Cervi but they start at about $2800 and we just didn't have that much money. We went to a treeless because it was the next best fit.
I would not use one if I were riding, because I'm heavy and think the tree distributes my weight better for the horse, but otherwise, I think it is individual. |
