I love looking at all the Weanlings that are for sale. If money was no option, find one that you would buy and post them. Also tell us why you would buy that one. I'm curious what everyone looks for in a weanling.

I don't buy weanlings but sell a bunch and it is my experience that when buying weanlings people look for good bloodlines and PRETTY. When selling babies, pretty makes a difference.

I don't buy babies but sell a few. Here is my favorite filly from this year and the one everyone has been wanting but I haven't been able to part with her yet. There is just something about her that people like.

I buy and sell weanlings. I want fillies with good bloodlines and color is just icing on the cake but not necessary. As for selling, mine has color and the bloodlines I like but is a colt. No one is interested so I guess I'm keeping him.

For the people that sell weanlings, what avenue do you take? I mean where do you advertise? Do you send them through an autction, ect? Are they halter broke, weaned, do you take deposits until weaning? ... I am thinking of selling some weanling, at this point I have only sold yearling and up...how well do the weanlings sell?

No, I do not auction any. A lot of times we have people waiting on certain ones and they are sold when they hit the ground depending on if they are a filly or colt. A lot of times I will not sell a filly if it is a certain cross that I have been waiting for. We do not buy broodmares---we breed for them. YES, all of ours are halter broke, have had their feet trimmed and are messed with a lot. IT IS A LOT OF WORK, but it is very rewarding when you see them out being successful. It is almost like seeing your kids out doing well in life.

Just went back and reread your questions, yes---we take deposits but weanling must be paid in full by weaning time. As far as advertising, we pretty much just use Facebook and it has done well, plus it is free. I feel that we can keep our prices down at the moment by less advertising.

I know color sells all the time, but I like balance, pretty heads and a good hip and a long under line. All the ones I ever pick to bring home are a soild color... Color is nice but got to have that special built. Color would be good on a baby like this, but we cant have everything.... LOL

I've got this filly for sale.  But after spending a bunch of time with her getting her ready, I think I'm crazy to even consider it.  At this point I think I'll just keep her!  She is about as close to perfect as I could expect.

I've never bought a weanling, I just don't have the patience it takes to raise a baby and wait to ride it!
However, if I was going to buy one it would definitely be a little filly by the name of Carly.

B Bar Heart Performance Horses hasn't added her to their website yet, but they posted a pic on their facebook page.

I don't buy weanlings. I breed them. I have bought broodmares though eventually it is my goal to breed all my own. But you have to get started somewhere. It is always my objective to have top bloodlines and GOOD LOOKING plus POWER PACKED PEDIGREE plus COLOR sells babies. I prefer to sell weanlings over yearlings because its less feed. I've sold two so far and will have another for sale this next year. I have two hitting the ground but I'm keeping one of them. I decide which one's I'm selling or keeping before they get here. This lets me have the right emotional/lack-of-emotional attachment to them at sale time. I'm proud of my babies for sale but not emotionally attached so its easy to let them go on to new homes. I will say a great feed program for babies and broodies is important to keep them looking great. After you've weaned them and put them out to pasture and they get potbellies and long winter hair they are no longer pretty and easy to sell. Better to sell them in summer or early fall when they are shed out and still nursing and super healthy. If momma looks bad, baby also probably looks bad. Picking good looking studs obviously helps with pretty babies too.

We sell our babies halter broke, loading in the trailer, pick up their feet (they've all seen a farrier a few times), brush them, had a blanket on at least a few times, wash them, and touch them all over. It helps them be safer down the road even if the new owner decides to turn them out as yearlings. I have listed here and on Facebook groups primarily. This last one I sold I never even advertised. Lady just contacted me and bought him. I like it when they are that easy.

So I was going to play this little game since I will not be buying another prospect for a long time...a girl can dream and I have to say....just because you have a well bred foal on paper doesn't mean you don't have to put some effort into a nice ad.  I was drawn to several horses ads based off their pics alone....I prefer low headed and solid legged (very little white)  but there is a high dollar colt I opened the ad and if they really think they are going to sell that colt with those pics......
Anyway kudos to those of you who take some time and put some good minds into these babies, put some good pics-not professional just well lit and put on a simple easy to read ad, you should be able to sell easily and thanks it makes dreaming fun, plus if I hear of someone looking I will send them your way.

Some people.....
sorry for the rant

rockstarinboots - 2015-10-20 11:27 AM I love looking at all the Weanlings that are for sale. If money was no option, find one that you would buy and post them. Also tell us why you would buy that one. I'm curious what everyone looks for in a weanling.

This one. Because he's gorgeous.
