Location: here there and everywhere! | Recently purchased a 4yr old Hancock Bred gelding whos registered with AQHA but I strongly dislike the name given to him. Hes not been shown yet so Ive been told that I could possibly still change his registered name. Anyone have experience with this?? How hard is it to go through and change. As of right now I am not a member and I havent sent his papers in to transfer to my name yet. Considering this for the future if I do take him to any AQHA shows |

Location: MD | So long as he hasn't sired any registered foals, hasn't earned any AQHA points, or awards, it's rather simple. Of course, you will have to be an AQHA member, but you just fill out the form and pay them the money. |

Some shows/ barrel races announce your horse's name. If I don't like it, I change it. I've done it twice. Fill out a form and send in money.

Location: Oklahoma | Super easy. Once you become a member you can search the AQHA website to see if the name or names you like are taken. You then submit 3 choices in the order of preference. I believe there is a $55 dollar charge to change the name.

Location: Tennessee | I changed my horse's name. They named her Nellie Rae after someone in their family who died. It's really simple, you just submit names like you would when registering a foal. |

Location: Wonderful Wyoming | I've done it twice. Had a Bully Bullion x Rebel Cause colt named Rebullion. I changed it to Bully Without A Cause. Bought my show horse as Stone Cold Chocolua. I hate wrestling and that is what it reminded me of. His sire is Chocolua and he is out of an Artful Move mare. I like WWII so changed it to Artful Assault. Sounds pretty cool when they announce it at the shows ;) |

Location: North MS | I had one named "Big and Rich Scorpion Bull"- long yes, I don't remember which words were squished together anymore. Totally got that changed at the same time I transferred him into my name. I didn't find a form for it so I just typed up that I wished to change the name of horse xxxxxxxx to yyyyyyyyy and sent in the money. It was taken care of. |

I can totally understand wanting to change a ranch number name. They are usually pretty boring. If I bought one I would definitely change their name. |

unless they are shown or raced, sired/dam of foal. I don't think there are any other restrictions to changing names. |

| Run Forrest Run belongs to a 2005 grey gelding.
Run Forest Run, a 1995 sorrel stallion
RunForrestRun, a 2011 chestnut gelding
As well as several other horses with various ways to use that name. |
