I have a blanket that fits my yearling that is not waterproof.... I don't want to go buy a waterproof blanket just so she can grow out of it. Does the spray work on non waterproof blankets?
Yup just buy a big can at walmart in the sporting goods/hunting section for like $6 it actually made it through about 6 blankets of mine with more to spare
I used the spray stuff last year and will probably be reapplying this weekend or next. I didn't have any problems and one of my horses even fell through the ice on a (very) small pond - he was totally dry under his blanket!

This is what I use.
I make sure the blanket is clean, then lay it out on the shop floor and go to town spraying only the top of the blanket, and avoiding the fleece wither cover.
Has anyone ever used Thompson's Water Seal? Someone told me they do theirs with this...I want to test it on an old blanket but can't remember if I have any of the seal laying anywhere. I used the stuff from the sporting goods section at walmart and it did NOT work on my previously un-waterproof blanket. Not sure if the results are different on a "supposed to be" waterproof one.

I use Thompson's Water Seal. I either put it in an old spray bottle, or if I have lots to do, I use a weed sprayer from the garden section. I just dropped blankets off to my blanket guy and I commented that I wasn't sure if they needed waterproofing or not. He said he'd be able to tell because mine always need extra washing. He uses my tip to waterproof for his business now. I throw the blanket over a fence and do about 3 really light layers, letting it dry inbetween.
