      Location: California | Hello all.
I have a horse with a previous hock injury. It's been several years since. She IS sound (vet check passed). I am bringing her back into shape, but I want to be using the best products to ensure that she is getting the support she needs to be pain free during this process. I am purchasing the BOT quick wraps and the BOT hock boots, but in addition to those, what works best to keep a horse with a previous hock injury feeling their best? Do I need be using poultice too? Injections? If so, what kind? Should the leg always have a polo wrap on when I'm working her, or let her "learn" to use it again? Any tips or advice it greatly appreciated! Thank you all for the knowledge!!

Location: Central Texas | I have used BOT, magnetic therapy, poultices, some DMSO mixed with Absorbine at various times on tissue issues. LOTS of cold hosing after work outs and most importantly to me, I bring them back slow and work them on good ground. Also, I try and pay attention, if they tell me they are feeling a little off, I listen and lightened their load or give them a little break, then re-evaluate. Normally, I don't work my in boots or wraps unless I am working the pattern at more than a slow lope. If I am just working on conditioning I leave the boots/wraps off, I personally don't like the extra heat. Everyone has a different opinion I am sure. |

| Adequan and Legend are a great combination to help soft tissue. |

If she has had several years off, and is not in shape, don't put much into the sound vet check.
I have learned horses who have passed vet checks before being legged up can end up sore/lame/fail a vet check once in shape.
To get the horse back in shape, I may do things differently depending on the injury. Muscle tendon and ligament I may be more conservatively depending on the tissue affected, the cause, and the result of the injury |
