I am currently looking for a Martin crown c barrel saddle for my horse, she is a 15.3 appendix, I was thinking I would need a 7.5 inch gullet for her. I tried a 7 inch on her and she had huge dry spots still, I was wondering if that half an inch would make that much of a difference!

It could be the angle of the bars aren't right for your horse also. I have the same type of gelding and my Crown C was bridging, I just got a Double J and it fits like a glove.

I would try to set some trees on her to see what size the gullet needs to be and if the twist in the bars.  Remember, there is leather that will go on the tree, so allow a few inches.

I would have a professional fit a martin. Those dudes are hard to fit since the trees and bars are so different. I'd hate to waste all that money on a saddle you couldn't use. Are you close to any tack shops around that have a saddle fitting specialist on the payroll?

I would think you would want to try a smaller gullet instead of a larger unless you plan on shimming?

Have you tried a 6 3/4" gullet?

In my experience because of the angle of the bars the 7" was too narrow. I'm guessing that is why you see so many huge gullet size with the Martins, because of their bar angle. I second getting the horse fit.

I live in Alabama, so if there are places to fit her for a Martin I certainly don't know of it! Haha she just has really thick withers. So when I put a saddle on her and a feel underneath I feel like it's laying on her pretty well until I get to the withers, were I feel like it's a little tight...
Thank y'all so much for your input!

I would call Martin and talk to them. They do have demo saddles, or you may be able to take pics with your saddle on and send it to them.

There are templates that you can cut-out and use against your horse that will help give you an ides of measurement. Just Google "Barrel Racing Saddle Measurement Templates". Good Luck!
