Has anyone ever ran futurities on a grade horse or known someone who has? If so how difficult was it to prove the horse was eligible? I have seen where many accept them with a veterinary affidavit but was curious how hard that was to deal with? All info is welcome!!

I have never personally done it, nor do i know anyone. HOWEVER a friend of mine has a grade gelding by her stud who is a KNOCKOUT and she wanted to futurity him, however the owners of the mare were less than helpful in trying to register the foal.
As far as I found a Grade horse can be ran in futurities as long as they have at least a sire or **** on Record. and are registered in some way. For example the American Half Quarter horse Assoc.
They can even be enrolled in future fortunes that way so i hear.
I could be wrong but thats what i found when researching the topic

Hmm I didn't know about the half quarter horse registry. Mine is already a two year old now :( I have the mare but unsure of the stallion. The mare is older and bred nice and we had no idea she was pregnant when we bought her to run. She passed hands through some readers that year and none would say really other than one exposed her to their DTF bred stud who is now gelded and they claimed none he bred caught so registering is a total loss here. She is looking to be a nice filly though so I was curious in case she turned out to be one of those lucky "free or almost free winners" :)

I would suggest you contact the futurity that you plan to run in. The forms that I have filled out require a copy of the papers and also say that if not complete, including copy of papers that they will be returned.

I imagine each futuritie/ derby would have diffrent rules.
A grade horse will need proof of age, This is a letter by the vet, describing the horse and its foaling date.
Im not sure if every one allows this, but Ive seen it done in the past.

Well, the good thing about horses is you can age them pretty well by teeth until they are about 10 ish. But you can get within 6 months until they are 5.

We ran a futurity up here in Canada (which may have different rules) but you either needed a vet certificate aging the horse, or a letter from the breeder if the horse was grade.
At our futurity/derby the horses were examined to make sure they matched their papers and then their teeth were inspected to confirm age.
Treat her as if she's going to be something special and follow the entry/exhibition rules for futurity horses. If she starts showing signs she'd make a futurity horse contact the futurities you're interested in and see what their eligibility requirements are.
