I have been on and off to many shows from Texas to the east coast. There was a young man announcing with the main announcer this year. I liked him so much better than Mr. Moorehead. Does anyone know his name? He seems young and is black. He has to have been around rodeo all his life. Maybe I should know him? Mr. Moorehead seems to "favor" his little group. Not just past winners, but only family and personal friends. I dont mind saying good things about the regulars, but just the way he goes on and on. But a State champ he wont even say a word.I lost my program, maybe his name is in it, any one know?

Lenell DeanAnd Alan Moorehead is one of the most generous men you will ever meet. I'm sorry you didn't like the way he announced the show.

Mr. Moorhead is like most announcers, he definitely has his favorites. Yes, it is annoying, but it would bother me more to be talked up like that.

I will also say that Mr. Moorehead is not my favorite announcer, but not the worst either. Four years ago I was running at Open World. I was one of the first people out at 8 AM and my horse ducked the second barrel. I wasnt going to let her get away with it so I just loped her in a circle and we went around the barrel and onto the 3rd. He had the nerve to tell me not to circle the barrel twice. I kind of threw up my hands at him because I only went around it ONE time. It just left a bad taste in my mouth. It was too early to be scolded and I was already upset that my horse had ducked. We saw several other people do the same thing later in the show and not one word was said to them. I prefer Lenell. Nothing against Mr. Moorehead, Im sure he is a super nice individual, but he seems to play favorites and doesnt have much of a filter.

Im not a fan either. He has made fun of a few, KNOWS information onnother champs...but wont say anything. I dont mind he talks about friends andnfamily. But this is a big deal for lesser famous people, it would be nice to say something. I dont know the man but Im far less of a fan than I was years ago.

LOL...........He did mention my jelly I made and shared with him............that being said I think he is great...not because of the jelly but he is just a good announcer........as well as Lenell........I reckon I have never noticed he favored anyone....just highlights the greats.....and some are great over and over so they get mentioned over and over....I am typically more interested in the horses than the riders when it comes to greats.........and he does have the facts on the horses...wins etc...

I think everyone loves Lenell. I know a lot of people don't like Allan because of some of the comments he makes when people hit barrels horses duck or what ever. He's said things when I've hit barrel but it doesn't bother me. I guess it bothers some people or they think he's making fun of them but he's not. I've never noticed him playing favorites either. I think he just knows more about some people than he does others.

I like him, he is really enthusiastic about the kids that run, when that 9 year old girl ran the gelding I just sold her he seemed excited that she did so well announcing "memories are being made" etc. - and they don't know him personally

Put yourself in his shoes, it's hard not to be happy for your friends and announce their accomplishments, he's just giving credit where credit is due!!! I hope one day everyone remembers my name and accomplishments as well!

i will say from an announcers prospective that some things just come out... or you are on an automatic repeat because your mind has to work to the next three horses and weather or not the last horse cleared the arena or the barrel is set.  if you have never tried the job well its not an easy one for sure.... you are first witness to all the horrendous wrecks (which is the hardest for me) you have to be alert to every movement on the floor.  and most of us who dont have a staff of 12 with us have to play the next song and make sure the time gets documented correctly.
with all that said.... its really the best seat in the house.

A Cool Sharp One

200020005001002525
I will say that Alan Moorehead has always been very kind to me while I was running, I am not a champion, wpra or anything else, just a weekend warrior and he has always complimented my horses and this past week he paid my horse the nicest compliment as I was running out, when my husband let me hear it on the video I was in tears.  I made sure to tell Mr. Moorehead that I truly appreciated the kind comments and that he will never learn to say "Thonotosassa".... but don't feel bad most people have a hard time with it and I am happy with the "Sunshine State"

Maybe that is why I always liked Alan, i don't like to be the center of attention, don't need recognized, and if a not so perfect run happens i am ok with whatever anyone else says,  just am blessed to be doing what I love to do.

I think that as someone who sees and announces thousands of horses and riders throughout the year, it would be hard NOT to pay attention to horses and riders that have impressed you, or that you see often and recognize. Alan spotted my Paint mare at a rodeo in PA with a girl on her long before he saw me last month. When he did see me, he said "I knew you were here somewhere. You don't let that mare out of your sight!". I had a horse go up the fence with me one night in Augusta and he said one of his standby "Power steering went out on that one. Right turn Clyde" sort of deals. How can anyone be mad about something like that? It's the dadgum truth! I love Lenell as an announcer, as well. It does make me cringe when in the middle of a good run, he says his trademark "Lookey here, lookey here", but that's only because he did it while my Paint mare was on the way to the third at the Syracuse Supershow a few years back. She ended up dragging over the third to run the fastest time of the weekend by a full tenth. He doesn't say it during my runs anymore. lol
