Maria Borrell won the first Breeders' Cup race she ran in then was fired the next day. Runhappy's trainer joins a long and illustrious list of trainers hired and fired by Laura Wohlers, barn manager for "Mac" McIngvale. Runhappy is undefeated under Maria's training and set a track record in the Sprint. The highs and lows of horse racing.

I really hate that! The story they did on her and Runhappy was really good. It sure seemed she loved that horse. She did a good job bringing him back from an injury and training him.

The new trainer is the sister-in-law of the owner. The old trainer felt heat in Runhappy's ankle and the exercise rider said he was off. The new trainer who was also the racing manager said there was no heat and wanted the horse worked today even though it was the day after a race. So she fired the old trainer. Later her and the owner said on Facebook that they had been planning to fire her "for months."

Mattress Mack has fired a LOT of different trainers over the years, including Baffert. She's just the latest victim. Whether she was just a paper trainer (speculation is out there that she had a contract and worked on a wage) or she was behind the horse's success (most likely), what a crappy situation. Although it wasn't a great move by her to post on Twitter about it.
