I have a great gelding that would be a perfect all around horse. I am not an agressive rider and so we are a solid 3D team together and he is 3D/4D with my 10 year old daughter. He has hit the 2D and i think he would consitantly with a more agressive rider. Would most folks get an agressive rider to ride him for some solid 2D runs or sell him as is? I want a good home but know he has more to give. Hes young (7) and well bred but very "push" style. Would this be unfair to him? a new buyer? Thanks - just want to be an honest horse person but not a dumb one!

The way I see it, you have to decide how big a difference it would make in asking price. You would pay for costs to travel and likely a portion of the sale price to the rider who was riding him. It comes down more to the business aspect of it. You could find him a good home, regardless if it is to a 3d/4d home or a 2d home.

If i had my own place, and didnt board, i would keep him forever. My daughter has started riding my 1D horse and i think she will be wanting to move up very soon. I am starting to gather some videos of him doing everything he can do and thought some 2D runs might make help me find the right home for him. He's got a ton of training with a TOP trainer. I just cant ride like her....

Since he would make an all around horse, I would show him in other events. The best he's going to be in barrels is a 2d horse on a good day but he might excel at another event and be much better at that. Sometimes we have a tendency to limit these lower level horses to just barrels when they have so much more potential in another event. He might make a great cattle sorting or mounted shooting or Ranch Trail Horse.

Depending on what company he is making 2D runs in, he could still bring a fair price. I don't think that it is at all unfair to put someone on him and try to build up his resume.
