My mare foundered this year with rotation in one hoof. I did have shoes put on her once, and she didn't show any discomfort with them. Now I'm keeping her barefoot and trimmed regularly. Her coffin bone is moving back up in the hoof capsule. She is much better but still a bit sore. I'd like to start riding her again but want her to be comfortable at the same time. I prefer not to shoe. (She's had shoes on once in 18yrs).

Can anyone recommend a good brand hoof boot for trail riding? I'd prefer to get something that'll last.

Old macs by far are the best, I have rode in the mountains, through rivers, mud up to the knees, and have never lost one.

With the gait or inserts that come with them, absolutely no rubbing.

I have one mare who lived in them 24/7 last winter in the snow and she never lost one, (they do get readjusted when she wears them, and I wrap her feet in iodine to prevent thrush when she is in them 24/7, and I change the pads every 3 days)

I just bought some of the Easyboot Trail boots.  I used Boa boots before, but these are so easy to put on. I use gaiters with them for a perfect fit and no chafing.

I've just used the Cavallo's. Good boot for the money. I ride a lot of logging roads that have those largish, sharp rocks and they hold up to that. I wash them after most every ride, and I also condition the leather frequently. I'm sure there are better boots out there, but I keep mine barefoot also and have just used the Cavallo's because they are good enough for what I do and I can get them locally.
