This is going to depend on the individual horse.  How patterned are they?  Do they want to be ratey?  What kind of slow work have you been doing?  I find all of these factors play into the way a horse reacts when I speed them up a bit.  Do you have any videos?

Maybe you are adding the speed to soon if your horse is floating around the barrels. Are maybe to much speed. Are you helping your horse to rate?
