| Just as it says I need a life style change and get healthier. I want to ride again as my finances improve but I need to get healthier and mentally happier. I don't have any energy my bloodwork and physicals look fine. I am told I am stressed the reason I have no energy and starting to put on some weight. I was told I needed to change my lifestyle and not depend on medication to improve my moods. Im also peri menopause. Any suggestions on where to start? Thanks in advance. |

Location: Gainesville, TX | Eating healthier and starting a walking regimen would be a great start, maybe some calisthenics. These are the first steps. Make sure you are getting enough sleep but not too much. I would think these would be the first steps and not too expensive either. |

| 30 minutes of exercise per day and 30 minutes of reading or listening to something motivating/inspiring/learning can really do wonders to help pick yourself up. I like to listen to podcasts or audio books on my way to work. There are thousands of workout videos you can do from home. If you have Amazon Prime there are lots of Jillian Michaels workouts (and others) that you can stream to your computer or tv. I use Beachbody On Demand a lot (my favorite is TurboFire!) but you get access to a large amount of Beachbody workouts (P90X, Insanity, TurboFire, Chalean Extreme, Hip Hop Abs, Brazillian Butt Lift, etc) and it's fairly cheap - about $15/mo. |

Location: Bandera, TX | Stress is evil on the mind and body. I have been in a very stressful work situation for the past two years. It has zapped the fun right out of me.
What is stressing you out, and what can you do to change that? Riding actually always helps me feel better about everything. Or at least just being around horses for hugs and kisses... Even scooping poop helps. |

Location: Kentucky | Start walking a little bit every day. This will help a lot. It gets your body moving and your heart pumping. It will actually encourage you to do more. Throw away any junk food in the house. Go to the grocery and buy fruits and veggies. I like to also throw stuff out when I'm depressed or need a lift. Organizing closets or cleaning the house makes me feel like I have control in my life, and I choose what stays and what goes. Plus a clean house can really do a lot for the soul! I promise! |

| Read Wheat Belly. It's a book. I think you'd love how a low grain no grain diet would make you feel.
Also, I agree about the walking. Even ten minutes is better than nothing. You'd probably find yourself walking further than that.
Also, redo your bedroom. Repaint it in a bright, clean color and redo the door hardware, trim, etc to make crisp lines. Think about new carpet, new furniture, or paint your existing furniture. New bedding, new mattress, etc. get the good stuff. It's amazing how important ones bedroom is to your subconscious.
I hope you feel better soon! |

Location: Beggs, OK | Splurge a little and buy yourself some really nice running shoes. My favorite brand is Asics. Buy some comfy workout clothes and commit to some sort of physical activity every day. Most people want to buy sweats to workout in, but the tighter stretchy yoga type pants are actually more supportive and "hold" you in to reduce the jiggle you feel when you're working out. Dressing for the activity mentally engages you....and new shoes are always fun! |

Location: In The Snow, AZ | I don't want to step where I don't belong on the pre menopausal stuff, BUT, my mom went thru a really bad time in her life when she was going thru menopause. She was misdiagnosed with BiPolar Disorder, Anxiety, Depression, stress and multiple other things. Several different doctors and medications later, she tried pellets. I'm not sure of the exact term, although I could find out if you were interested. But they changed my moms life and whole outlook on it. She is much happier and even keeled. Sometimes and imbalance can ruin everything. My mom was my best friend growing up. She was always happy and positive. She goes to church. Does Bible studies with her friend. Etc. but this imbalance created a lot of sadness, irritability, and anger in her life. These pellets brought her back to herself.... Just a thought. I do hope you find what you're looking for. |

| i would start taking b12 and vitamin D and maybe even try a cleanse i did one awhile ago and it really helped i stopped needing to take naps. the other thing i would do is if you are eating a lot of dairy like yogurt i would cut back on that because dairy can make you bloated and feel lethargic. i would also avoid convenience meals if you are currently eating them because they are very processed and have a lot of sodium in them. |

| Lots of very good advice here! One simple thing I did was every day I thanked God for my life and family, animals, whatever came to mind. I would think on it a little and make sure I had a smile on my face when I did this. It seemed to bring me some peace from my crazy emotions. I also did a lot of the stuff everyone has already mentioned. But I feel like that very simple act of being grateful/thankful really helped. |

| How do you know your peri menopausal? I ask because I'm kinda suspecting this may be happening to me. I've been in such a bad slump for the last few months with moving and husbands job loss horses for sale...not trying to steal your thread but I'm kinda in the same boat. Mentally and physically. |

| Cut back on refined sugar to start and move to cutting back on processed foods.
I also suggest looking into bio-identical hormones to see if that's something that you think would help with peri-menopause.
ETA: Don't try to do everything at once i.e.: quitting sugar and refined foods at the same time - you will feel like you are depriving yourself and may "fall off the wagon" faster and go on a binge! (speaking from experience).

Common Sense and then some
Location: So. California | Been there... - Changed my entire diet to only fresh foods - removed all the packaged foods from my diet for 6 months. Did not eat anything out of box, bag or can... Allowed myself to "cheat" once a week.
- Take daily vitamins, especially vitamin D. For some reason I was lacking in this vitamin, even though I was outside all the time.
- Walk 3 times a week - sometimes more. It's amazing what a 10 minute walk will do for you mentally and physically - you can even do your walking during a break or lunch at work.
- Removed soda and alcohol, reduced my intake of caffine (love a good cup of coffee!)
- Learned how to meditate daily. This is my time to talk to God. The best thing I've every done for myself.
- Bought a daily mediation book with positive/inspirational thoughts. I now have 4 or 5 of these, one by my bed, one in my car, one in the kitchen, one at work... LOL. I can always grab one of my books for inspiration. Each one is different, but I always find what I need. :-)
- Started writing/journaling, just writing about whatever. Really helped me clense my soul so to speak.
- Do something that is just for you. Take a class on painting, start a new hobby, whatever it is that interests you, that you've never found time for, take the time and start to learn.
- Be kind to yourself. Your body is going to be a hormonal mess. It is NORMAL and all women go through this at some point in their lives. I never took any medication, I just let nature take it's course. It wasn't always easy, but I'm glad I did it the natural way.
Good luck! There is a light at the end of the tunnel, and pretty darn good on the other side!! |

Location: The best kept secret in TX | I started Yoga. I use an app called Pocket Yoga. It can be found in the app store here: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/pocket-yoga/id347400507?mt=8 It's $2.99 but I use it every day and it's priceless in my eyes. I lost my love handles form my pregnancy really fast and i'm starting to tighten up my core with the mountain routines. I do a simple ten minute sun salutation when I get up and a quick 30 min routine at night once my babies are all in bed. If i'm feeling adventerous I do a 60 min routine. I drink 120 ounces of water a day and I try and not eat anything processed but lets be honest, it was just halloween... I do notice a difference in how I feel and act if I don't workout |

| Thank you all very much. Such great responses and so helpful. I took some advice early on and went on a walk, played wiht my horse and I do feel better.
I am D deficient according to my bloodwork and my hormones according to more bloodwork show peri menopause. It's horrible for sure and I am not sure if my job is stressful or the hormones make it stressful.
Thank you all again. |

Location: OH-IO | I have PCOS (polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) so my horomones are never right either. Its a very big struggle with life! I also need a life change and want to start getting back to my riding abilities (i have not been horseback for 2 years) These are a few things I have done that seem to be helping a little, maybe they would help you too!
-I stopped drinking soda, switched to iced tea. I still add a little sugar to my unsweet tea, but its not nearly as much as what is in a soda. -I drink a bottle of water before deciding if I am really hungry or not. I may just be getting dehydrated or most likely I am bored. -And like someone else said, when i get really aggrivated or down, i clean and organize ( but I am also diagnosed with extream OCD so that might be kicking in at this point) -Here (ohio) we have reached muddy nasty horses stay in season. So I spend an hour a night aside from just the regular barn chores-and do a little extra organizing in the barn or brushing horses or braiding manes ect. Makes it feel like I am atleast spending time with them since riding season wont be back till april round here.
I have an 8 month old, and just walking him in his stroller makes me feel better. But now that it is cold, husband and I are joining a gym and are going to take turns at night watching the baby while the other one works out. my goal is to eventually loose 75 pounds. so we will see! Best of luck!~ |

Location: the end of the rainbow | We should start a support group. I don't have the hormone issues but the stress & depression I can relate to. It's a vicious cycle and I have pledged to break myself out of it. Gonna order my Purium this weekend and commit to at least 30 minutes of honest exercise 4 times a week in addition to my riding. Good luck go you. Pm me if you want a support buddy. |

Location: LaBelle, Florida | I am in the pre menopausal boat, one leg in I think. Spoke with my chiropractor who is also a nutrionist and he put me on a product called Total Female.
I also get my vitamins from him. OTC from WD made me want to upchuck. What I get from my chiropractor I can handle.
The Total Female (all natural supplement for balancing hormones) really helps me out. I call them my 'do not kill' pills as I was really starting to have some 'anger' issues over nothing.
