When you say your levels are hyper, what do you mean? Like you your TSH numbers? What are they?

Possibly get tested for graves, as I have two cousins that were all over the map.

One cousin has actually been diagnosed with Graves' disease and a secondary diagnosis of hypothyroidism.

I just had my blood taken yesterday and they called and left a message saying the results were in today, but I didn't get the message early enough to call back. I'm kind of nervous but not sure why. I have a friend that has thyroid issues and my grandma and cousin both have issues so I decided to go ahead and get tested, but don't really have any symptoms that would really make me think I do have it.

So are your TSH values low or were you told you were hypothyroid? It gets very confusing because high TSH values means you are Hypothyroid.

Low tsh values can mean hyper by a lot of times it is you tsh hormone is working overtime to try to get the t-3/t-4 to convert.

You need a more indepth panel of blood work done.  You also need to get your antibodies done for testing for Hashimotos.  There is more to thryoid problems then TSH T-3 and T-4 levels.  You could have autoimmune disease with normal levels of TSh T-3 and T-4.   I do.  and I have normal levels of T-3 and T-4.

Question I have had for years is why are so many people now on thryoid medication or having their thryoid checked, etc.

I'm not sure, but just talked to my Dr and all my bloodwork came back great. Guess I am just tired because I have kids. I had mine checked just because I have a grandma with hypothyroid and also a cousin. They say it is genetic so since I was at the Dr I mentioned it and she said it is fairly easy to do a blood panel and find out some info. My friend was always tired, having trouble losing weight no matter how hard she tried and also losing a lot of hair. She also has a lot of family members with the issue. I am very anti meds unless really neccessary. So I am glad it all checked out clear.

Did you have your hormone levels checked? I know I'm pretty tired all the time and had mine checked, as well as my thyroid (mom has thyroid issues). Mine came back fine, but Dr. said sometimes being tired all the time, moodiness, etc....stems from hormone issues.

I personally thinks alot of it is lifestyle. I was diagnosed with Graves Disease (hyper-thyroid) 3 years ago. Doc wanted to "kill" my thyroid and put me on hormone replacement meds. I didnt like the sound of that so instead went on a med to slow my thyroid. I changed my diet and started working out. Have been off all meds for over 2 years.

I didn't, but they said pending this test and if I have enough symptoms that I want to look further then they sure will. I'm 35 and really just being tired is my only issue. I do wear a garmin Fit bracelet that tracks my sleep and it is beyond pitiful. Deep sleep for sometimes no more than 12 steady minutes and then light sleep for 30 minutes and then deep for another 4 minutes. I don't notice an issue at night but I sure wake up tired.

Mine came back abnormal after a full panel blood work. I am hypo and feel alot better since I have started taking synthroid. But I have also started an intense fitness routine and eating much better, so that could be the reason I feel better not sure. Blood work is normal now though.
I have heard so so many people go in and ask for their thyroid to be checked and doctors wont even discuss it because so many people have abused the meds. Guess Im glad they found it by "accident"

Where did you get your Garmin Fit Bracelet? Most mornings I wake up tired then have a hard time getting it moving. Then at work I have a hard time staying awake. Maybe it is just my age.

Find a doctor(gynocologist especially) that specializes in bio-identical hormones and they will do a very indepth study on your thyroid and if needed they can get compounded bio identical thyroid med for you.  No synthetics just all natural.
I highly recommend everyone to get their horomones checked as they can be the reason for feeling blah.  Also someone mentioned that lifestyle has a lot to do with it and I totally agree.  I found a great doctor in Dallas that gets her patients on the straight and narrow real quick like!  She gets right to the point about your bloodwork
but it is so worth it.

Not trying to hijack this thread but I too have been wanting some info from ppl with thyroid problems...So my husband went to the doc after getting bit by several ticks, tested for Rocky Mountain spotted fever, Lyme and bmp along with thyroid panel.

RMSF came back past positive exposure(went ahead did a round of antibiotics), tsh high and postive TPO. So off to endocrine we went where they diagnosed him with hypo thyroidism and hashimotos and he was started on levothyroxine but is still having muscle pains/tightness, brain fog and fatigue is that typical for hashimotos after starting treatment???

Btw his follow up is next week so obviously we will talk to a dr then just wanted some input from people who have experience

I have been Hypo since birth. I was born with a goiter and completely inactive thyroid glands. I was started on Synthroid at around 24 hours old. When I was 13 my goiter had enlarged to the point of concern for blocking my airways. An US was performed and showed numerous nodules. They went in and did a complete thyroidectomy. Nodules were benign (thank goodness). I have remained on Synthroid since that time.

In relation to your post: I would request more in depth testing. TSH itself is NOT adequate in determining method of treatment. Many providers/practitioners, even Endos, base treatment solely on TSH and may add additional Free t3, T4 but almost alwasy base their decisions on TSH. NOT ALL BUT MOST are like this. If your provider is, and denies requests for further testing, get a new provider. I have dealt with this long enough that I no longer have ANY tolerance for mediocre providers. As a pediatric patient I had the best of the best Endo pediatric team at the time, highly recommended all over the country (Vanderbilt). Which is why my family moved here.

Since I was released from the pediatric Endocrinologist and sent on my way to adult life, finding my own providers, I have had some real doozies. Some have led me to circumstances that absolutely could have been avoided if they actually listened. My most recent Endo, doesn't even have me listed as Congenital Hypo, only post surgical. It was as if I didn't have a hypo history before my thyroidectomy. Ignores my requests to look beyond my thyroidectomy. This Endo is most certainly not for me.

I am currently looking into holistic/naturopathic providers. If you haven't already I would recommend checking out "Stop the thyroid madness" there are books, websites, and FB pages dedicated to thyroid patients looking for answers. It explains correlations between thyroid, adrenal, hormones, etc. I have come across several topics that have helped me and answered many questions.

Good luck to you on your Thyroid journey! Keep us updated on what you find out (:

I have no luck getting a doc to go any deeper than t3 and TSH testing-I'm in range-even if it is low in range so, once again-I sit and read these threads.

HOWEVER, I want to mention to those of you that are struggling with fatigue and maybe some slight depression to have your vitamin d levels checked.  I suffer from seasonal Bit&$%iness when I do not properly take my vitamin d.
Also I stumbled across the Curost adapt and calm for humans-I ONLY take it about an hour before I go to bed and it really does help with sleeping soundly. I only take about a half a dose as well.

I went to someone that went beyond the typical t3 and TSH testing.  She had me do a saliva test and found all sorts of things wrong with my system/body.  Any doctor can do it but most just want to do blood tests.  You just have to find the doctor that best meets your needs.  The person that I went to was actually a Nurse Practitioner, not considered and actual 'doctor' and insurance didn't pay for it.  Each visit was $200+, so I finally had to quit going because it just got to be too expensive.  Anyway, she had me taking so many different things (vitamins and stuff) that my body was lacking (according to the saliva results), I couldn't keep up with all of it.  At the end of the day, did I feel better.... NO and neither did my wallet.  Bottom line, there is no easy answer to finding a solution that really works when you have thyroid issues.  I've struggled with thyroid issues most of my life.  Each and every person is different  in how their body reacts to medication and each and every doctor is different in what they perscribe.  JMO.

Have you gotten to try name brand Synthroid? If you have tried and "failed" generic, it should be no problem to get the brand name. The generic was NEVER effective for me. Supposedly its the exact same thing according to some docs BUT obviously there's a reason both are available. Maybe it's worth a try for you? Also maybe look into Natural Dissected Thyroid.
