I'm in the market for a new washing machine.  Any suggestions?  I used a Samsung front load at a rental house and it was awesome!  But I'm leary of front loaders. My #1 need is for it to be super quiet.  Whoever designed my house must not have had kids because the laundry room is right next to the kids' rooms.  #2 would be for it to clean super dirty, greasy, etc clothes well.

I've had a Samsung front load for 4 years.  No complaints, it works great. As long as I don't forget a load of clothes for 2 days--then I have to run a de-stink cycle with baking soda and vinegar. LOL

In shopping for them, my only words of advice are to possibly look at the cycle times if you are like me and need to do a quick load (like a shirt and jeans) in some of the newer models.  Mine at the house are an older pair (no electronic gadgets) in which my quick wash is quick -- like 10-15 minutes tops.  I can run the wash when I'm in the shower and stuff can be dried while I'm getting my make-up and hair done.  My dad has a newer set -- fancy, fancy, fancy -- that the "quick" wash is 40 minutes.  A full wash on it is 45 minutes.  Someone dropped the ball on that one.  I just wash stuff in the sink when I'm over there if I need a quick wash.  It's my only complaint on some of the newer models.

Do not even consider LG.  We have had an LG for about 6 years and as of about a month ago a bearing went out on it and it sounds like a jackhammer in our laundry room.   It's ashame that appliances don't last like they used to.  We had a mechanic come look at ours and we were quoted around $700 to fix it. Forget it!    We'll just get a new, different brand. I like front loads except if you shut the door on them after a load they stink.  I just leave the door open on ours.

I was shopping for a new set and shopped for 3 months!  I finally decided on the Speed Queen manual set.  I LOVE THEM!!!  they are commercial grade and have a water level selection option!  (That is rare to find anymore all are going to automatic sensors to save water)  My husband is a plumber & farmer so he is always covered in dirt and mud and our clothes have never been cleaner!

I also went with speed queen!! Just got the set a few weeks ago. I got the digital ones. Absolutely love them. They did cost a few hundred more than the other sets I was looking at but they are rated to last at least twice as long! Highly recommend them.

I really liked my "old" front load, but am on my 3rd washing machine since we put this house in 17 years ago. They will tell you up front that today's machines are designed to last 5 years....if you get 7 you are supposed to consider yourself lucky.

I got an LG front load over a year ago and I HATE it. It's supposed to be "green". To get a load clean, I have to add extra water and rinses and it takes 2 HOURS to do a load. If something is not real dirty I can use the "quick" wash feature I just found. That takes maybe 1/2 - 45 minutes. How is using 2 HOURS of electricity "green"!??! Not to mention adding extra water.

I avoid the moldy smell by using a bungy cord to hold door partway open between washes. Next time I will look for an OLD, used washer. My sister is still using her 30+ year old washer...I HATE this built in shortened lifetime that is built in to today's products! (not made any better by the electronics built in to them) GRRRRR!!

I guess these speed queens are rated for 20+ years!!! They are what all the laundromats use. I'm impressed with how clean my clothes are. They wash in 26 mins and dry in as little as 35mins.

Not a fan of front load washers. I prefer the original top load. I feel they get your clothes cleaner. And the speed wash minimum is 30 minutes but once it reaches 4-5 minutes it'll go down to 1 minute left and then jump back up to 4 minutes and mine does it at least once or twice so the quick wash ends up being 40 minutes.

I purchased mine at a local appliance store as well.  On the website here you can locate their dealers.  Mine is a top load washer and front load dryer.  I went with the manual knob style because I wanted less chances of anything breaking.  But there is a great warranty with these machines as well!!  I dont think i will ever own another brand.

If you have the money and want a machine to last years with little to no repairs MAYTAG is the only way to go.  I bought a used washer and dryer that were 17 years old and they lasted another 15 years till I finally sold them to get a updated pair.  Bought new set -top load washer Maytag and dryer.... have never had any problems.  Quiet and cleaned the clothes great....

Before i purchased mine I talked to a guy that repairs old applicances and sells them.  He too said Maytag/Whirlpool/Roper have been the leading appliance manufacture for years and still have the best used ones.  But he said the Speed Queens and Maytag are the best NEW ones you can buy out there right now.  He highly recommended both

I have heard Speed Queens are one of the best machines, you have to be willing to pay the extra bucks. I actually went with the GE set. Top load and still has an agitator. A lot of the new top load washer do not have an agitator and they will not get farmers/ranchers clothes clean.

I have a Samsung VRT and I love it! We got in 2008 and still going strong. I keep the door open when not in use, wipe the gasket down once in awhile and clean the drain plug every three months.

I can't IMAGINE having to keep the door open for a front load for it not to STINK! That is some serious design flaw. I don't think I would ever consider one just for this reason. You shouldn't HAVE to rig a bunge cord or prop something in the door - that is crazinest to me.

I don't want to jinx myself, but when we bought our house 24 years ago it had a used Maytag set in it. Still going strong today! I keep thinking that I should get new ones just to save energy and water but after reading your posts I think I will stick with what I have! We have had to do a couple of minor repairs, but since we live in the boonies we just get a local guy that is really handy to do it!

Speed Queens have been around for as long as I can remember...At least 45 years. They made commercial machines only and didn't know they are now making machines for the home. We looked into buying a front load when we moved to Texas 20 years ago and they were almost $3,000. and we just couldn't do it at the time. We ended up with a Frigidaire front loader and it was awesome and then they cheapened them up so we know have a Samsung and I like it but it wasn't as nice as my Frigidaire Gallery.

We have terrible water and I started to get a musty smell that I never had problems with the Frigidaire front loader. It seems the liquid detergents suck for front loaders. I changed to powder and haven't had a problem since. Did take a lot of empty washes with vinegar, baking soda and the Tide washing machine stuff to get the odor out of the rubber gasket.

I have a Kenmore front load that I got from my mother in law because she wanted a different color lol. I think it was 5 yr when I got it. I LOVE it. I just leave the door open until the last load is out of the dryer to let it air out and dry and have no problems with it smelling.

we just bought a whirlpool duet front load washer. my first front load. It does a great job of cleaning greasy dirty clothes (husband mechanics, cuts wood, etc). I am happy with it so far. We'll see how it handles winter clothes lol!
It has a quick wash option, delicates, heavy duty, sanitize, normal, that's all I can remember lol! I just throw in one of those soap packets and skip using the soap tray thing...

We are on our 2nd Samsung front load. This one has steam. We have ad absolutely no odor issues with either washer. The first one just wore out after years.... We love ours -- love the various wash options and it does a great job - uses less water and electricity and due to the spin, clothes take much less time to dry. We leave a small mouse cat toy (!!) in our door to leave it a bit open - always have. The same little mouse has been holding the door for years and years....
