Hi my bookkeeping friends! I was just curious if any of you had any certifications? I am a bookkeeper and was considered becoming certified. I just wanted opinions on whether or not you feel it makes you more marketable, ability to require higher rate of pay, etc.

I've done bookkeeping for 4 different businesses plus I do all the books for our large farm. All 4 businesses approached me to work for them, I wasn't looking for another job. I am not certified. Have 15+ years experience.

I have my associates degree in accounting. But many people do just fine with no formal training or just the basic bookkeeping class and no degree. I do think it's better to get some formal training because there are some things that are necessary to know that training gives you.

Most degrees in business have at least some classes in accounting. I had to have 3 terms of accounting for a business management degree so I just went ahead and got both degrees. It was only a few credits more.

When I was in high school I hated math and only took a senior math class in summer school to be able to graduate. I ended up managing the cash flow between several banks and the Fed Reserve for a living as well as managing several multi million dollar construction projects. Just had a knack for numbers :)
