Location: Texas | OK we are remodeling a house to get it ready to sell. I say we need to repaint the bedrooms, baths etc. The husband says no that people who buy a house want to redo it their own way. I was thinking that fresh paint etc would make it look nicer. Not wild weird paint colors but a pale blue in the one bath, light green in a bedroom. Me personally I want a place move in ready so I don't have to do anything but unpack! Help me settle this one. |

We are in the process of buying a house, the sellers offered to paint and clean the carpets. We told them to leave everything alone as we will be pulling out all the carpets and painting every room in the house.
I guess what I am trying to say is it really up to you how much you want to work on the house and if you are also willing to take a little less if you don't do those things. |

Location: Buffalo, TX | I buy rent houses, so I look at at a LOT of houses....There's nothing worse than "colors" in rooms...like someone else said, stick to tans or cremes (for sure a neutral color) in every room...I paint all of my walls in the houses a light tan (white looks to sterile, tan warms it up and it shows better). |

I agree with this. Moving is exhausting and fresh paint will sure make it nice. Then once they get settled in, they can alway change it later. |

So, I'm with your hubby. For me weird paint colors would be light blue in the bathroom and light green in a bedroom.....sorry |

| I read that green is one of the worst colors you can paint a room in a flip house. If you are going to repaint stick with whites or neutrals. Light colored neutrals are warm and inviting. |

| Fresh paint - neutral colors! I would want it all fresh and looking great when I look at it and move in and then I could paint the colors I want as I decided to, not feel like I had to paint the entire house before I moved in because it looks dingy. |

Location: Never in one place long | I'd say neutral colors for sure, they are always "in style" and it'll make it look much better.. you could do most the house in a Taupe color and maybe some earth tone colors in 1-2 others. I HATED when we bought our house and the colors were so ugly and with wallpapers, we had to spend so much time tearing it down and repainting. the owners said well, we wanted to let people do it their way but I wish they of updated it, I HATE painting. |

None of you girls would ever be satisfied no matter what color it is painted as you all want to make it your own nest. Now us guys could care less as long as its warm, has food and a nice girl that welcomes us home as we walk thru the front door. |

you are so right lol. I change colors about every 4-5 yrs and my husband said he can feel the walls closing in around him due to the thickness of the walls from paint. I told him to hush it because I could paint it purple while he was gone and he would never know if I didn't say anything. |

Location: Texas | I'm with you BS Hauler. I couldn't care less about the house! LOL When I bought it I wasn't wild about the carpet but it was brand new and I couldn't see ripping it out!! Now as far as repainting the bedroom, it has wainscoting so that is the part I was going to repaint and leave the upper portion off white. I want to get as many $$ for it as I can.

Location: KS | Depending how bad the walls look now would be my deciding factor. I agree with several, paint is a cheap way to make things new. And agree with going all neutral colors. Im not a fan of white either, but more than likely the gal that moves is, is going to repaint anyway. I aways have anyway, my husband and I built a new house last year, I went with all neutral colors beside my office I got brave and painted it turquoise. The rest of the house is browns, grays, and barnwood. :) Good Luck! |

Location: West Tennessee | Whites (warm or off white) are the hottest colors going in design right now -- at least according to my other half (he's in the furniture/design business) -- behind that's pale grays. Be very careful with creams as they can look too yellow before you know it.

Sears used to and may still have a silver colored paint that made your eyes think it was silver blue .. or any tinge of the color of your carpet ... ha ha ... no it was not propane tank silver .. lol
The house I did it on had a very pretty blue bath room fixtures same color double sink counters and tile floor and the MBR had a misty blue Karastan pile carpet ... http://www.karastan.com/carpet-search/Elegance/10544/?return=carpet...
It was unbelievable how pretty it was when it was finished .... I kept the tubs, all the tiles waxed with an airplane exterior wax ... shined like new money .. lol
For a for sale house ... last thing you want is what is called a rainbow house ... where you have different colors of paint and/or carpet all over the house ... and never do green carpet or dark navy blue ...
Your best thing is wall colors of tan with white borders .... all the way thru the house or an off white ... never white white ... lol
I would try selling it with it super clean and no painting and offer xxx dollars to be left in an escrow acct for buyers to do their own painting and carpeting .. if no bids or house does not appraise without fixing it up more .... then fix it up ...
GOOD LUCK ...

Location: Texas | I'm putting all new faucets etc in the bath and kitchen. New drawer pulls on the cupboards and drawers, new door knobs throughout the house. I'm leaving the carpet the same it is in good shape. Going to have it professionally steam cleaned and the house cleaned before it goes on the market. We are putting new flooring in the kitchen and baths. It is an older frame ranch house. I got sick of dealing with contractors so we are doing this ourselves! One contractor wanted to come in and rip out the built in china cabinets and the little desk/work area that is built in between the dining room and kitchen. Said it looked too "farm house" like. I wish we could move it over to our place we live now but this is going to fiance my new barn! Thank you for all the opinions.

Location: Oklahoma | Always fresh paint in neutral pale colors for resale .. The best almost white is Cloud White by Benjamin Moore .. Get it color matched BM is too pricey imo. Just a tiny touch of cream . Its the best color for white trim ..Snow white gets too dirty and is cold.if you have real wood stained trim.. Then off whites into cream Add a rich look.. With white trim or painted kitchen cupboards I go more to a little darker. There are soooo many choices in the whites, creams and tans now it's awesome! Rather than blue which not many people like on walls try a grey that is blue based .. Pick up the lightest color in your bath counter if its multi color. . Contrast and balance .. Go lighter on walls than counters and floor .... ( when you have pale floor and counters its the opposite) You aren't living there so assuming it is empty of furnishing ..The decor is going to be way more important than if full of furnishings and acc. Paint the exterior doors .. Big draw its the first thing that is noticed. Stay away from greys in flooring .. too cold and limits the colors people can accesorize to later. It can force an entire house into the modern look, which is classy but NOT warm and inviting. Do not pay attention to trends they don't mean anything , designers choose it they can't make any money just as in fashion they have to change it all every year. In furniture and accessories its a diff story but seriously more cream peices of furniture sells than any other color. I have been doing this since '87. ( yes I do get bored spending all my time painting cream furniture and off white or tan tan tan walls ha ha .. ) must be why I get so excited when someone wants some red .. |

I agree about stick to neutral colors. People want to walk in and be able to imagine what they could make it look like. Hard to do with color. I'd go with a warm white or tan rather than cool neutrals. Warm is homier IMO. |

I agree with all posts saying your best bet is neutral...however...blue marble? That sounds totally awful to me, I'd redo those countertops in a minute, with granite, if you can afford it. I go and buy remnants, quite cheap. I've been flipping houses for 10 years, and I can tell you, granite is well worth it in resale value. EVERY single time. |
