My nephew has torn up his shoulder and they are wanting to try stem cell for speeding up the healing process. They will take it out of his iliac bone. Has anyone had any experience with this? He is 20 years old.

It sounds like they are taking bone marrow, not stem cells.

My brother had stem cells, they took it from the fatty tissue cultured it, then injected it. My brother has a spinal cord injury, when they injected it into the spinal cord, he had an inflammatory reaction, the rest of the treatment he was given stem cells iv.

According to the research I did today, you can get stem cells from fat and bone marrow, with the bone marrow stem cells being more desirable in my nephew's situation. It will not be covered by insurance, so his parents want to hear from people who have had stem cell therapy and if they found it beneficial. Did your brother feel it was helpful?
