Well, as many know my boy struggles with ulcers. I've had them under control all year. Changed his diet. Pulled him off all grains. He's been on hay cubes and a roundbale and last night he got into the goats pen and ate some of their feed with molases in it... The feed is an all stock with molases so It isn't medicated persay but I understand it could have traces of cattle meds in it since it's "all stock"... Anyway, I dosed him with gastroplex, gave him some electrolytes, and a dose of ITZ paste. This morning He was up and eating his hay cubes like normal but was nosing at the back part of his stomache and was standing stretched out... Makes me think he's having a tummy ache. I put a call into the vet and he said to just monitor him closely since he's still passing stools. He suggested to keep him moving and to call if he hadn't had a bowel movement after he eats so he can check him out. But at this point he doesn't feel like he needs to be oiled since he is still having bowel movements. He also suggested some probiotics to keep him regular since I was concerned about his tummy hurting... Anyone have any suggestions on their favorite probiotic? Or any suggestions on what else I can do for him to get his tummy back to normal? He ate a pretty good bit of the goat feed so I'm thinking it's going to take a couple days to get it out of his system completely. Prayers and good thoughts for my boy would be helpful. Thanks Y'all.

We you Omega Alpha Probiotics and really like them. They need to be fed within 15 mins or so of touching moisture(if you soak your feed). Also have to be fed, cant top dress hay or anything!

s for your fella. I don't know about today, but many years ago, Moorman's had a good probiotic.. We used it on goats, but the horse would sneak in once in a while.... It never killed her...

I would ask the vet about banamine, as it prevents the release of endotoxins into the blood stream. Endotoxins can cause laminitis. The horse stretching out this can be a sign of laminitis
I would also get a tube of omeprazole from the vet and do a treatment and see how he responds if you think it is ulcers.

Thank you for all the prayers and good thoughts. He's been great this weekend. Up and alert. Bucking and kicking and running all over. Gave him about 4 doses of Gastroplex this weekend and it helped him a lot. No more stretching out or anything. I started feeding the goats in a seperate pasture to prevent it from happeneing again. I also picked up from probiotics for his tunny to keep him regular.
