Finally bit the bullet and after never having cable TV or a dish, we threw away our rabbit ears and broke down and have DIRECT TV.  What channel airs the NFR?  Can actually be on my own couch and watching it this year.

Thanks.  I hope we got that channel in our package.  I always thought it was on ESPN, so we made sure we got those channels.  Will have my fingers crossed until I get home tonight.

We have just the basic direct tv package and upgrade it every December so we can watch it. Last year they gave us the upgrade free for the month.

LOL, you may have to call  Direct and see what channel they will have the NFR on. I love Dish I know I will have to hunt the channel down but I know that I will have the NFR. I dont ever have to order any thing special to get it.

You should also have a program guide when you got your Direct TV...CBS Sports Network carries the NFR...
Hope that helps

On DirecTV, it is on Channel 221, CBS Sports Network.

If you have the Extra, Ultimate, or Premier package, you have this channel.
If you have the Select, Entertainment, or Choice package you do NOT have this channel.

I went ahead and ordered the Xtra package. For signing up we got a $200 Visa gc. Didn't tell hubby lol, although I'm sure I'll spend it on him!!

Man! I didn't get a $200 GC. But I've been a customer for 4 years, and still paying about the same as I was back then, because they give me loyalty discounts :)

The NFR hasn't be on ESPN in a few years. It was on GAC channel for a year or two. It was on CBSSports Channel for the first time last year and will be on it again this year. RFD-TV does lots of coverage of the NFR and the events around it, but does not have a contract to show the rodeo itself.

I have Direct TV, have a pretty basic package and had to upgrade to get the Breeders' Cup races. It is the same channel as the NFR (221) so will keep it until after the NFR and then cancel it. They have a lot of car racing on that channel so is a dud for me other than NFR and horse race.

Upgraded Direct TV today for a month and it's $7.00, then I will have to cancel. They said I'll have 48 extra channels during that time including Fox, Oxygen, 602 horse racing.

That's crazy! I called yesterday and they said it would cost $20 for the month but they would credit me back the weeks I didn't have it if I cancelled within the month.

I called Dish today and I thought the guy said 159 and thats what I wrote down. Not sure if we are going to upgrade though since it comes on in the middle of the night here in the east. I don't have a way to record it either.

Sure hope someone posts the barrel runs on youtube again this year.

Well I didn't have the channel and thanks to all the helpful hints, I got my package upgraded to include this channel for $7/month.  But like snother poster said, I can drop it at anytime and go back to my old package.  I was worried it would be a lot extra a month and then I would be stuck with it.  This would be why my avatar says Livin in the dinosaur age
