Location: WA | 20 year old mare. Every winter she gets a cough, sometimes has nasal discharge, usually not. Previous winters I would just give her time off, but my son is doing really well on her this year and is excited to go so giving her 4 months off to get through winter isn't an option anymore. (I have a call into vet, just getting more ideas). I started her on DMG 5600 but that will take a bit to kick in. Can't warm her up out of it. Seems intermittant and not necessarily bothered by exercise, but you can't exercise her when she is coughing (ok, we do not).
Anyone have any tricks for the horse with winter coughs? |

| I know I am going to sound like a broken record but maybe try CUROST Immune. It worked wonders for one of mine with very similar concerns. And I don't have to give it all the time, just until spring.. |

I never said there was no reason she was coughing. I said it didn't appear exercise induced and hecouldn't warm her up out of it. |

Oh I know! I'm just saying you will treat it rather than mask it this route |

Just a side note, I had my horse scoped multiple times. Cur Ost was the only thing that treated and has worked. |

Not saying it won't work..... I would just want to make sure its not some strange airway issue or something. I speak from experience...lol |

YUP, mine was scoped several times as well, to the tune of about 1200.00 total and was just told " Ventipulman, soak hay and all feed he eats, and 15 benadryl 12 hours before he runs ( So the antihistime is still working but he is not groggy to run). Curost TOTAL fixed that bada bing!!!! I gave away my 200 dollar bottle of ventipulman and THrew away all the benadryl. This horse has been clocking half to 3/4 of a second faster since curost. Last week he started to get a little winter cough/gurgle but it was due to weather changes 90 one day and 30's at night. SO I ordered a bag of the immune and fixed him right up. I don't plan to keep him on immune, only as needed. |

Yup, sometimes $100 is worth 'trying' than $1,000+ and still don't have any answers. I was in the same boat. Very frustrating. |

I agree with you. My first action is normally a vet trip because so many symptons can belong to so many different issues. Then if a supplement or other treatment is necessary I go from there. I had a mare that had an on again off again, extremely slight bloody mucos discharge from one nostril only and a slight cough every once in a while, started during the winter. Everyone immediately, shouted put her on Lasix. Come to find out she had a weird case of deformed molars that had infected her sinus'. Lasix would have done absolutely nothing for her nor any other supplement. Only removal of the molars and antibotics. I am sure it's something simple for yours and an immune supplement will probably do the trick but I have spent tons of money on supplements in the past on various issues when the solution was medical treatment. So until horses can speak to us it's going to be a lot of guessing and sometimes a toss up on what course of action to take. Good luck and I hope your horse recovers soon! |

It's not a random supplement. I have used it with a lot of success for breathing issues in the past. My barrel horses are on it to help with recovery after runs. Having her on it isn't going to hurt anything and maybe there is a chance that it will help her. Only reason I asked on here was tp get other ideas. |

All of the Cur-OST product can be purchased through the website, www.nouvelleresearch.com. If you're planning on using it for respiratory issues, for the first 90 days, you will get the best results with the Total Support combined with the Immune & Repair. The Total Support has a loading dose of two scoops twice daily for 14 days, the Immune & Repair does not require a loading dose. After the loading dose of the Total Support, you'll ideally run both product together for 90 days and them use the Total Support only for maintenance. |

Location: Piedmont, OK | Animal Element Immune Key is excellent for allergies and coughs. It has anti-inflammatories, it's antibacterial, as well as antioxidants to help fight infection, inflammation, and helps to heal. I take it in a protein shake and have not been sick since I started it. All of our products are human grade ingredients. |
