I have a broodmare that is young, healthy, sound, but FAT.. this is a big mare in general but I have found myself to be caught in a bit of a slump with her, she had her foal in Jan and I was worried about going too hard too fast with her being so heavy and getting her hurt, but now Im starting to wonder if I am babying her and thus not getting the results. I guess Im just looking for some examples of the routines others have had good luck with bringing a heavier broodmare back into working condition safely

Buy a book called Backyard Racehorse. This is an invaluable resource for getting horses fit, and has some excellent insights about nutrition, drugs, and the daily effort of keeping performance horses. :D
