Location: Somewhere around here | I don't barrel race in winter or early spring, don't have the means or time to keep my horses legged up, so they just get trail ridden and a tiny tiny bit of arena work just so I don't lose my mind lol. I was talking to my husband today, asking what bit should I use for these winter months since I'm mainly trail riding and it got me wondering.
What bit/hack do you ride in your horses during your "slow months"? |

Location: Dearing, GA | I do the same thing you do. I ride in the Sherry Cervi Diamond Long Shank that has square bars and a lifesaver break in the summer and for tuning, but I'm about to go back to a Jr. Cowhorse just for riding around in the pasture.

Isn't piddle another word for going pee?
I had a college professor that used the phrase "fiddle fart" liberally. |

| I use whatever's handy. Usually a Jim Warner hack. That way if someone does something stupid when they are feeling good, at least I have a whoa.
I don't usually like to use bits in the winter because my hand doesn't appreciate warming them up! I don't have a heated barn or tack room. |

I like to use a different f word for fart- anyway OP I tend to use a hack whenever I'm casually riding my horses-usually what ever is around and on a headstall. I prefer the carls hack from l and w but I also have started using the stop and turn on my big guy. I have a beetle and a little s that I use from time to time depending on who's riding who. Plus no bit warming needed. |

| I just use the same bit or whatever I choose so when I'm just "piddling around" on my horse I try to ride with a loose rein and work on lightness so I'm not really in their face. |

| I use my Little S hack or a snaffle when I trail ride or long trot. I too "retire" from Thanksgiving to about end of January, then they start getting ridden when the ground isn't frozen. |

Location: Minnesota | I ride in a Pozzi Hack. In the off season I'll use a halter if I'm just wanting to jump on and ride around a bit. I cant let Vinny sit too long so I still ride quit often but its just some fun little courses with some ground poles, nothing crazy.
A few winters back I basically let him sit all winter thinking he would appreciate it, not even a bit. He was such a pill! So needless to say we still ride weekly. |

Location: East Tennessee but who knows?! | Depends on how fresh they are! I've got some that I ride in a rope halter around the trails at the house. The hot ones will get a shank of some sort if we go out anywhere. If we're trail riding out, I use a shank then too just because you never know what's going to show up. Otherwise, I just use a snaffle most times. |
