How do they determine who goes back to the Futurity finals? I keep thinking they take a certain number from both the 1D and the 2D, but apparently I'm wrong? Does the 2D not count at all for coming back to the finals?

No, those in the 2D do not come back for the finals. The finals is the 50 fastest horses from both qualifying rounds (not 50 from each round, just the 50 fastest times after both rounds have been run).

So what's the point of the 2D? Just added money? I'm running this year and kinda on my own on trying to figure this all out. What about the Amateur Futurity? How is that chosen?

Yes, the 2D just gives more people a chance to win money in the qualifying rounds.
You have to hold an amateur card with AQHA and it had to be sent to the BFA office by October if you wanted to be eligible for the amateur incentive.

Oh I know that, I'm eligible for it. I just want to know how they determine who goes back to the finals in the amateur.
They take the fastest time from every amateur entry (fastest of your two runs) and the 10 with the fastest times based on that go to the amateur finals. However, if someone makes the amateur finals and also advanced to the futurity finals in the top 50, they cannot run in the amateur finals.
